BA not able to open Excel nor Link to an already open sheet

Hi there.

This has only cropped up because I run several computers and one of them does the betting. Its all good. Opens the excel sheets without any problems at all and BA does the same on that machine without issues.

However today I wanted to manually test something new so tried to use BA to open the test sheet. No joy. I can open excel and the sheet - there is an excel issue on this machine anyway which I will get to but BA can not see it. I try to open the sheet using BA and it wont open it - the tabs in the Excel Dialogue Box from BA remain blanked out.

Now both machines are running Windows 10 pro and both also running Office 2007 BUT and I am sure this is somehow related the machine that I am using today regularly throws up an error when trying to load an Excel Sheet when Excel itself is not open. The error is a pop up dialog box saying “There was a Problem Sending the Command to the Program” and excel opens but the sheet does not. So the way I deal with that each day is to have excel open and then open the sheets I need. No problems to date and other programs, specifically Paradox which uses Excel extensively every day via oleauto never has a problem. But this is the first time I have tried to use BA to open or use an already open Excel Sheet and it simply wont do it.

I have also tried using the BA Excel Open Multiple Worksheets function as well but that is like the interactive BA Excel Dialogue Box able to see the excel file in the file viewer but not able to open or even see the Market, Selections etc tabs. ie BA is not opening the sheet at all.

So does anyone have any bright ideas? What is annoying is that the two machines in question are very similar and both running Skylake Chips and Chip Sets and both running identical OS.

OK despite almost 12 months of minor annoyance with this and endless chasing down rabbit holes with it unrelated to BA I have found the issue so leaving the post up in case it helps someone else.

The problem was that Excel was set to "run as administrator"
