Excel CPU Usage Closed Markets

Postby Deestar » Tue Aug 11, 2015 10:42 am

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help with the following issue. I've started running BA on a VPS and as such I'm trying to keep the CPU usage in check.

I currently run 5 tabs (each a different market type, be it win, place, UK, Aus, RSA etc) all linked to separate excel sheets. These are run automatically, with new markets loaded in each category at a set time before the respective off. This means a race may finish, with the market closed and excel will continue linking to that closed market until the time is right for the new market to load up.

Oddly, I've noticed that my excel uses more CPU when linked to a closed market than it does when linked up with a live market. I don't understand why?

Is there a way to stop excel calculating or BA updating to excel when F2 shows "Closed"?

Any thoughts, ideas, help appreciated.
Thanks

I think most of us code so it either, moves to the next market or sets a high refresh rate.

I probably do similar to you and load markets at set times, my code just deletes closed markets with a -8 and moves to the next market, it'll then decide what refresh rate is needed depending on the time. Closed markets have been a pain for me in the past so now I just delete them from the quick pick with a -8

Thanks for the reply. Such a simple solution I'd overlooked it.
Still don't understand why the CPU spikes when the market closes but now it's not an issue. Thanks.

If you look on the site there's been a few threads about problems with closed markets. Dunno if it's down to the change in data from the new API messing up with the old way the BA handled closed markets, the new data even includes the winner in settled/closed markets which would be good if it was utilised and displayed when we access closed markets.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
