I think Betfair really do have to watch their transparency because although the majority dont give a monkey's about it, the major players do and so if it gets to a stage where nothing on the site is transparent the bigger players will move to somewhere where it is.

This may well answer what I have been noticing for quite a while now. It is particularly apparent on the major races on a Saturday for me, when I know I am very near or at the front of a queue and my lay bets just sit there - often for hours and not get taken but yet much more money than is shown on BF gets matched at the price I am offering. Matched money is not coming off the front of the queue any longer. Presumably it is BFs money they are matching.

I personally think, but have no proof of course, that much of this commenced after the move to Gibraltar. This presumably allowed them to operate in a way which would probably would not have been allowed under a UK licence. This, coupled with the 60% PC, was to force the big players away so that they could implement their own trading schemes.

I suspect we are stuck with it, because at the end of the day BF are in this business to make money for themselves at the expense of other players.

Betfair's sports book is now live ,

will be interesting to see how this pans,

out there are reports of customers already being restricted, but that could be B.S :(

just had a quick play around with it and you carn't get more than about a 10-00 on some things,

Im assuming this will increase as you get closer to the event ?,
but what the point ? may as well just leave your bets on the exchange to get matched.

Today sees the launch of the Betfair Fixed Odds product. With the added convenience of Fixed Odds alongside Exchange Odds, it’s now easier to get an early bet on at Betfair. Take the Fixed Odds as soon as a market opens or where there are gaps in the market – no need to wait for a price.

What’s more, you pay no commission on Fixed Odds as you are betting directly against Betfair rather than other customers on the Exchange.

Can you explain what you mean by restricted? Is there anything to worry about?

Cheers,

Some people are saying they are having their stakes restricted when using the betfair sportbook, just like all other bookmakers do when you are winning.

But I dont think this is the case myself,

i carn't even get the mimimum 2-00 stake matched on some events ,

but i think that is because betfair are just not willing to take on any risk unless there is enough money on the exchange for them to hedge immediately.

Ah, I see. Thanks for that.
If they aren't letting people put bets on unless they can hedge it out then I can't see their new venture being very successful.
If they want to compete with the bookies on their terms, then they have to guarantee to accept a bet at offered odds

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
