Newbie question re Excel Spreadsheets.

Postby Art Decko » Tue May 22, 2012 10:01 am

Hi, just getting to grips with gruss...(hopefully)

Can anybody point me in the direction of a preconfigured spreadsheet which will link to Bet assistant and which will allow me to type in the names of selections, along with required odds both back and lay, the back odds to be taken 30 seconds before the race (if reached) , and the lay bets to be kept in-running?

I am sure this question has been asked a thousand times, but, I am new here ...

TIA[/b]

Just use the sample sheet http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Excel/Place_Bets.xls , set your sheet to auto select the markets 30 seconds before the off , use trigger BACK for back bets and trigger LAY-IP for any lay bets

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Captain, but I have to shamefacedly admit that that spreadsheet might as well be written in Chinese as far as my being able to comprehend or make use of it is concerned. I have no idea what all the #N/A's are about, and what half the column headings are referring to.

Maybe I'll just stick to inputting the bets manually.

No problem , here's the instructions to the sheet

http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Excel/E ... etting.htm

The #N/A's just mean not available as the horse names hasn't been matched you can turn that type of error reporting off if needed. If it's just as easy to do for you manually just stick to that no point in complicating things using automation if it's not going to bring any additional benefits

Thank you for that further post, Captain, and having read through the instructions, toggling back and forth between instructions and sample spreadsheet, I think I am beginning to understand it.

Am I correct in thinking that Columns A through to Y contain historical data which is automatically inserted into the spreadsheet after the race is over, and which can be accessed for research purposes ?And would the list of horses be the total number of runners in the field, or just the horses which were selected to back and/or lay?

Finally, and this may be a really stupid question, but I am not totally clear on the issue, it would appear to me that if you want to both back and lay a horse, you need to enter the name of the selection twice, and each row is a separate bet, it can't be done on one row. Or am I missing something very obvious ?

I know that I will look back at this thread in a few months time and think "How could I have been so thick ..."

The data A to Y is live data that Betting assistant exports to excel it includes all runners. As soon as you move to the next market new data is populated into excel so you'd have to look at using vba etc if you wanted to collect data.

I've never used the sheet so no idea if it'll accept backs and lays for the same runner, the original thread here http://gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3557 looks like a separate sheet has been added to do that. Otherwise you have plenty of options with the triggers if you want offset bets placed after you've been matched if you're looking to 'trade' a runner

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
