Exacta Expose

Postby doris_day » Thu Apr 05, 2012 10:38 am

I've been interested in the Exacta and Quinella markets since I came across 'DrZ's Beat the Racetrack' by Ziemba and Hausch a few years ago but I didn't really do much about it. I've been re-investigating it since my usual algorithms took a hit with the various changes that have happened to Betfair over the recent past.

I've come across exactaexpose.com and wondered if anyone had tried the service and could give me some feedback.
The attractive element to me is the huge pools in Hong Kong. Betfair need to get into these as soon as they can but I gather the HK Jockey Club are giving them short shrift.

I would think that you could do similar tables using BA (at least for UK racing) assuming that you can get the estimated dividends from somewhere.

The one possible flaw I can see, is that surely there is a difference in how you would calculate a value exacta between NH and flat racing ? I would have thought that it would be more likely that an evens favourite would finish second in a flat race than a NH because it may have fallen which it can't in a flat race. Or is this accounted for in the price eg. it would be 4/5 in a flat race ?

Yes, I've been thinking about that. Calculating the prices isnt a problem but its a matter of scraping the data in from the various tote sites.
BA couldn't be used however for the HK markets which are massive - around £3m for any average race quinella pool.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
