Problems Loading Markets

Postby Castillo » Tue Oct 25, 2011 7:46 am

Gary

Since updating from Ver 1.1.0.66x77 to 1.1.0.66x80 I’ve had nothing but trouble in loading the AUS markets. It sometimes loads but most of the time it needs to Retry & Retry etc

I know while it’s retrying I can go to Preferences & Turn OFF loading AUS markets, but then this is usually followed by Retry’s just Fetching Markets. At one point this went on so long BA crashed which is annoying after spending so long setting up Tabs etc.

At first I put it down to the AUS server maybe, but this is happening on a daily basis so I’m not so sure. It also sometimes fails on loading UK/AUS markets only.

This is the info from BA_Diagnostic.txt

07:40:43:703: Error loading markets: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
at Betting_Assistant.MyTreeView.listMarketsThread() in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x68\Betfair Trading API Beta\MyTreeView.vb:line 218
07:40:46:421: Error loading markets: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
at Microsoft.VisualBasic.Strings.Replace(String Expression, String Find, String Replacement, Int32 Start, Int32 Count, CompareMethod Compare)
at Betting_Assistant.MyTreeView.listMarketsThread() in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x68\Betfair Trading API Beta\MyTreeView.vb:line 177
07:40:49:968: Error loading markets: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
at Betting_Assistant.MyTreeView.listMarketsThread() in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x68\Betfair Trading API Beta\MyTreeView.vb:line 218

Have there been any changes to the software following Version 1.1.0.66x77 which could be causing this as previously I hardly encountered any problems?

Thanks

Hi Gary

Not sure if this helps, but browsing through the BA_Diagnostic.txt file this seems to be apperaing quite often...

20:04:14:859: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index 0 is out of range.
Parameter name: index
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlCollection.get_Item(Int32 index)
at Betting_Assistant.GridPanel.resizeScrollBars() in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x68\Betfair Trading API Beta\GridPanel.vb:line 84

Hi Gary

With retry's in excess of 200 in Ver 1.1.0.66x80 I decided to uninstall and roll back to Ver 1.1.0.66x77, all markets then loaded first time without an error. And any subsequent market refreshes are also fine, so I presume this eliminates any problems with the servers?

Can you confirm if this problem was appearing just after starting the application or had it been running continuously since the previous day?

Hi Gary

The problem is there almost all the time in Ver 1.1.0.66x80, not just at the time of loading. A few times when it gets into a loop which you cannot stop, BA will eventually crash because of the increased memory being used etc. This is the annoying part as I have usually taken some time setting up about 30 tabs linked to excel etc.

As previously mentioned I’ve rolled back to Ver 1.1.0.66x77 and the market loading is much improved. It may only very occasionally fail but on the second retry it loads the markets, where as in Ver 1.1.0.66x80 there were problems on all most each refresh of the markets (AUS & UK/US)

I am having this problem also, although it does load after a few retries. I don't have the AUS markets ticked.

Having said that it loaded at normal speed this morning.
I also noticed the last few days the "autoload market" is loading slower in the latest version. It's more than likely the Betfair servers.

Ver 1.1.0.66x80

this sounds familar ! I thought I had a hardware fault.

First quickpicklist refresh at 1003 today - then last achieved ( using my excel logger was 1037 am ) at 1430 looked at screen - noticed quickpicklist refresh window kept being displayed, closed, and displayed again.

Haven't got BA logger on - and cant because :

BF have suspended my acct assess to api ( and via website ) - lucky me :cry:

This may not be the same issue. The refresh window repeatedly appearing may have been a symptom of your account being suspended. The API request would have failed so it would just keep trying again. It doesn't expect the account to be suspended.

Hi Gary,

thanks .. sort of !

just have to wait for the BF api guys reply as to why my netbook upset them so .

"Trend Homecall" found no issues

"Malwarebytes anti-malware" has just found something. Totally unintelligable summary though - for this muppet. I'll email you a copy of the log file

'Avast' next

Why do you think it is malware? I don't think that would lead Betfair to suspend your account, they may have their own reasons.

running scanners is just precautionary Gary.

I have refered the results back to "Malware" & deleted the 'bad' file.

I remain puzzled as to why BF have frozen my account - as I am doing the exact samething everyday since mid March - except August holiday, and changing to a netbook early in september, always at a refresh rate of 1 second.... so hardly a big consumer !

I can carry on panicing all evening - ..........if pressed ! ha ha !

goodnight

Hi Gary

I may have found what was causing the problem. I’m back to using the latest Beta Version 1.1.0.66x80. What I’ve noticed is with Task Manager open (So I can evaluate the memory used) and then refreshing markets in BA the memory fluctuation for example can range from 110,000K to 300,000K. However following a market refresh BA sometimes does not return to 110,000K but remain at the higher memory used rate. So following further market refreshes it can push the memory BA uses up to the 800,000K / 900,000K mark which eventually caused the PC to run very short on Virtual Memory which is probably why I was getting the following error message and it was continuing to fail to load markets.

07:40:43:703: Error loading markets: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
at Betting_Assistant.MyTreeView.listMarketsThread() in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x68\Betfair Trading API Beta\MyTreeView.vb:line 218

So I’ve increased the Page file to hopefully overcome the problem.

Just to give you an example of tonight’s setup for BA and the memory readings from Task Manager.

Setup 7 Tabs linked to US racing and Excel. (Memory Usage approx 150,000K)
Setup an additional 12 Tabs linked to AUS racing and Excel, still showing 150,000K approx but after a market refresh the memory used is now showing 370,000K but after a few minutes it has reduced to 190,000K

Hopefully loading markets will not be an issue from now on.

Cheers

Thanks. What you say backs up what I have found. It looks like there is a memory leak. I am pretty sure I know where the leak is now so I am going to plug it.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
