Conditional Betting Help

Postby Hardy » Thu Sep 22, 2011 10:38 am

Hi,

I've started using conditional betting for the first time and I'm having a problem.

I've been running a system for a couple of weeks whereby I lay a horse in running if it reaches a certain percentage above its Betfair SP – i.e. if Lay Price >= x, then Lay at Lay Price for a certain stake. I include a tick offset of +some number of ticks, so that the lay will be matched at any price between trigger price and trigger price + n.

My problem is that for the last two days, I’ve had no bets matched. These are, of course, bets that meet all of the trigger criteria. Before that I was getting 60%-70% of bets that met the criteria matched. (I assume the ones that weren’t matched didn’t have enough matching funds available or went outside the stated price range before the bet could be matched due to the 1 second delay for placing in-running bets.) But now, I’m watching the price in running, I see it reaching my lay trigger point and nothing happens, 100% of the time.

I realise it’s not much to go on, but I‘ve checked as thoroughly as I can and I can’t see anything I’ve changed.

I’d be very grateful for any suggestions.

Are you staying on the same market after entering the conditions? It can only monitor and trigger the bets if you stay on the market. It also will forget the settings if you change markets and then change back again.

Yes, Gary. I'm staying on the same market and watching the price fluctuations in runnng. I have the conditional betting panel open as well and the "Active" check box stays ticked. As far as know, I'm not doing anything different to when I was getting most bets matched.

I realise it's a tall order asking people to imagine what might be wrong - just hoping someone will think of something I'm missing.

OK - stand down. I've just done my first on of today and it got matched. I've no idea what was wrong, but whetever it was, it's not anymore. Either finger trouble on my part or an unlikely run of unmached bets. Probably the former is favourite.

Thanks for responding, Gary. One more question while I'm here, if I may. I seem to be misunderstanding the Tick Offset feature, or the interaction between it and the Max Liability.

Let’s say I want a lay bet matched at anything between 3 and 3.5. I set up Lay at Lay Price if >=3, with a tick offset of +11. I also set a max liability of, say 100, which I tend not to change from bet to bet.

Occasionally, however, I’ve noticed that I get bets matched at , say 4, for a stake of 20, when I thought my upper limit was 3.5. Is this because the Max Liability setting overrides the Tick Offset setting? (Max liability of 100 would allow matching at up to 6 for a stake of 20.) Or am I misunderstanding the application of the Tick Offset?

Sorry if these questions are a little basic.

Your criteria says >=3. The tick offset setting means whatever the odds are then 11 ticks will be added to the requested odds therefore the odds must have been 3.45 when the bet was triggered. There is nothing in your criteria to prevent this happening. If odds+11 ticks exceed 6 then it will not be triggered because of the max liability setting.

OK - that makes sense. I was misunderstanding it. I assumed the tick offset was from the trigger odds, not from the atual odds when triggered.

Many thanks.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
