1.01 back bet.

Postby easternpromise » Mon Nov 22, 2010 5:41 pm

I am trying to back bet towards the end of horse races.

If the horse is winning I trigger my bet at around 1.5 odds, but bet at 1.01 to make sure the stake is accepted.

Sometimes though the bet is not accepted, even though you can see thousands of pounds have been backed at 1.01.

Can anyone explain ?

Do you get a bet reference? You can check the transaction log under the account menu. Once the bet is received by Betfair it is in their control so we cannot explain for sure why you don't get matched if you get a bet reference. We are 100% sure though it cannot be a fault with Betting Assistant.

It could be that the bets are placed just before they suspend the market and your bet was at the back of the queue. It could also be that the bets were rejected because the market was already suspended, the transaction log will show this in the API response column.

Also there is already a lot of money available at 1.01 before the start of the race. Some users put in 1.01 lays as keep bets just after the market is opened by Betfair.

Without seeing your exact trigger its difficult to say what the reason is, however, with the volatility being what it is at the moment in-running, I'm not certain your strategy is going to give you the best chance of longterm profit.

This type of strategy was fine a couple of years ago when the in-running liquidity was high but these days its become quite poor and you'll find that the price you're matched at will inevitably be lower than you'd want. Possibly even too low to make a profit. If I were you I'd use a price based on either a number of ticks or percentage lower than the current price, rather than a simple 1.01.

I've been playing in-running for the last five or six years and have noticed an alarming decline in the in-running horse racing markets over the last twelve months or so. So be very careful.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
