Retrieving Web Query Data

Postby sagar » Sun Oct 17, 2010 9:50 pm

Hi folks,

I developed a web query to get data from an odd comparison website. Everything works fine but sometimes I receive a message saying "Unable to open the web page...". This happens when for some reason there is an interruption of the Internet connection. The problem is that until I click OK on the error message Excel is completely stuck. This is fine if I'm in front of the computer but if I'm not then Excel can remain unactive for hours. Is there anyone who had the same sort of problem? If so, how did you solve it?

Thanks!

Is it a run-time error '1004', Unable to open http://www..... etc?

If it is then you can do something similar to this in VBA

Code: Select all
On error resume next
'code to refresh web query goes here
On error goto 0

Hi, thanks for the reply. No, it's not a run-time error '1004' and actually I'm not calling the web query through VBA but just though Excel. It's just a message that pops up saying 'Unable to open the web page' or something like that followed but the web address. It's very annoying because Excel gets stuck until I click on 'OK'.
Maybe I should call the web query through VBA?

Thanks for your help!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
