Hit With Crazy Data Request Charges !!

Postby Stu77 » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:29 pm

Hi.

Last month after a normal days trading i got hit with a €50 Data Request charge even though i have the Throttle Limit set to 15. I managed to get the charge cancelled because in 5 years using Betfair i have never been hit with a Data Request charge of more than €3 and i am convinced that Betfair made a mistake and charged me comebody elses Data Request Charges.

I haven't been hit with any charges in the following 6 weeks but then today i got hit with a €42 charge for Saturday. I haven't changed my Throttle limit. It is still at 15 and my data requests move between 2 and 10 but never higher and certainly never close to 15.

I use an older version of Gruss Betfair Trader (ver 0.99z43). Is this the reason why i am getting hit with these crazy charges? I feel like closing my Betfair account. I can't understand how i got charged €42 for what was a normal ays trading using the exact same settings i've used for years.

Any replys greatly appreciated. Thanks, Stu.

Are you viewing Betfair's chart by clicking on a selection and are you viewing multiple charts at the same time? That's the only part of this program that might have a problem with the throttling. I've not looked at this code for some time as there are only a handful of users on this version and nobody has had problems with request charges.

Are you using other applications at the same time or the website with the refresh script?

You can email bdp@betfair.com for a breakdown of requests.

Why don't you want to upgrade to the latest version? I know for sure that the throttling code is 100% reliable in the latest version.

In fact there are only three users on this version. It does not make any economic sense to make any more changes to this version. I recommend you upgrade to the latest version. I am sure I can get Betfair to waive the charges if you agree to do this.

Hi Gary.

I normally have 4 or 5 markets open at the same time. I set the refresh rate on each Market/Tab for 3 seconds and the Data Request box hovers around 5-6, sometimes jumping to 10 but rarely higher.

I don't realistically know how i could have incurred these data request charges in 1 day and its happened twice in 6 weeks even though i haven't changed any settings. I am now worried that betfair won't refund the charge because its happened twice in a relatively short period of time even though Betfair haven't provided me with a Breakdown of the charges.

See my previous reply. I cannot guarantee the throttling is 100% in this version so if I explain the situation to Betfair and tell them you are no longer using this version I am sure they will waive the charges. I cannot justify spending any time researching the problem in this version.

I wouldn't expect you to make any changes to the version i use Gary. I would be happy to upgrade to the latest version if i thought it would resolve the problem but i am very mindful of data request charges and am baffled as to how i could get hit with two big charges on two random days where i haven't traded any differently or changed any settings.

Hi Stu,

I would highly recommend that you get the breakdown from Betfair and hopefully it will shed light on where the charges have been incurred.

Regards,
Mark

It would be great if you could explain my situation to Betfair Gary. I'll upgrade my software no problems. Do you want my Betfair Username?

I'm afraid it's your call. I obviously cannot guarantee that Betfair didn't make a mistake, but I can be sure that the throttling is 100% in the latest version whereas I cannot be sure about the old version.

Gary, can you have a word with Betfair on my behalf. Its 2 random charges in 6 weeks. It may be because i'm using an older version of Betfair Trader and rather than take anymore chances i'll use the latest version from now on.

Much Appreciated Gary, Thanks for your Help. I've upgraded to Betting Assistant, probably should have done ages ago. Hopefully, that will sort the issue out.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
