Aussy horse racing volume

Postby robm232 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:30 pm

Quick question for those in the know (and stay up later than me!), thinking I might try an automated trading system for aussy pre-play horse racing markets (along with Uk) but the system requires a fair bit of volume on matched bets. Can anyone tell me the average range of dollars matched on these markets?
And are the any other considerations that are specific to aussy races? Many thanks rob

Australian horse-racing liquidity

Postby GustavW » Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:40 pm

I just came in here to find out the same thing as "robm232" (if that's even his real name..) was asking about. I live in Sweden, and I would like to know what kind of liquidity there is on the Australian races that start at around 4 AM to 7 AM (GMT+1).
The liquidity on the Australian races are terrible from 9 AM to noon. The Aus greyhounds are not even worth trading on in the daytime.

Well, enough rambling. Anyone knows?

If you have a look at the Betfair Aust. site http://racing.betfair.com.au/ you can use the calendar (top left) to access historical data which shows the total amount traded on each race for win and place.

If you want more detailed data then try a download from betfair data http://data.betfair.com/

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
