Getting used to the software

Postby john_boyuk » Sun Sep 05, 2010 9:30 pm

Hi and just to let you know i'm new to betfair asst. having previously tried fairbot a few months ago and geeks toy more recently.

I decided to give BA a try as i couldn't find a stop loss function on geeks toy and i prefer the layout of BA to fairbot.

I did make a mistake that cost me a few quid on a couple of bets today until i realsed what was happening.

On a couple of races today i thought i'd greened up in play and clicked the green up button and saw that all selections in the race had greened up. However these bets hadn't apparently matched and i ended up with a couple of losses amounting to the £60 mark!

If i have greened up in play previously with fairbot and geeks toy i have always found this to be the end result. Once greened up all bets being matched. I believe it is something to do with the trading mode i had ticked! An expensive mistakes today but apart from that i love the layout and we learn by our mistakes! Needless to say it is now unticked!!

I'm hoping it won't be too long before i can claw back my losses!

I plan to remove the "trading mode" feature. It was my first attempt at providing a "green up" feature, but its not really needed now. It just serves to confuse.

I'm not sure how you got into the position where you didn't know if you was greened up or not. The P&L column always shows your current position and this is where you should be looking for confirmation.

The level profit column displays what your P&L will be if the green up bets are matched, but after clicking the level profit column there is no guarantee the bets will be matched so you should keep an eye on the P&L for confirmation. The P&L column also has a yellow background against selections where there are unmatched bets.

Hi Gary and thanks for your reply. It wasn't a case of that I didn't know if I'd greened up or not, At the time I thought I had greened up and the profit box showed a green profit, as did the profit next to each horse in the ladder interface which is what I was using. It was only probably half an hour after the 2 races in question that I realised I'd made a loss when I checked my Betfair account history and noticed the losses.
What I hadn't realised was that any current bets were at the bottom of the screen (too low for me to see. I have since dragged the page up so I can see them below the ladder interface) Obviously if i'd seen that, I'd have noticed some of the bets were unmatched (orange) rather than matched (green). But because I'd seen the greening up box and the profit next to every horse greened up, I'd assumed all bets had been matched and moved on to the next race. I suppose I'm just not used to seeing the greened up profit unless that profit has been secured. Both fairbot and geeks toy show red loss unless the actual bet matches in play. My own fault maybe for jumping in to trade before being totally familiar with the interface! An expensive mistake bit I am aware of it now! We live and learn :)

The green up box shows the profit that can be taken, not the profit that has been taken. The same is true for the level profit column on the ladder. If these still show values then you are not greened up.

Ok thanks Gary...So once greened up the greening up box should disappear? But the profit column to the left of the horse names in the ladder interface should still show how much profit you have made? Is that right?

Yes, it should disappear. The figure to the left of the horse name is your current "if wins" position, if you are red on another selection it does not show this. It's the same figure you can see in the P&L column on the grid interface. If you are trading exclusively on the ladder you can be sure you are greened up (or at least at a level loss) by the absense of the level profit box. You should also check you don't have any unmatched bets.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
