Amazing Software

Postby osknows » Mon Jul 05, 2010 4:32 pm

I use several pieces of software for my analysis but thought I'd let the cat out of the bag on one of the best 'free' pieces of software going...

Thanks, fact that it is open source makes it worth looking into and should prove useful.

It's a data analysis / stats tool which contains both classical and new methods to analyse data. If you have a set of data and want to uncover information contained within it then this tool may help you find it

Thanks for the link Osknows.
I was going to ask the same question as Royville.
I appreciate your answer but would respond how?
Could you give a betting related example where you could use this tool rather than doing it directly in your spreadsheet or database?
Many Thanks

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

I have another datamining app that uses neural nets but in all cases I've found the sheer weight of data is restricting in what I can do with it. I have around 630K rows and around 50 columns, making 30million data points. That's a lot to get through, no matter what analysis package you've got.

Generally, I like to think of possible scenarios myself and then just do the analysis by hand. It may sound cumbersome but I've generally got better results using that methodology.

Sometimes though I've used a random sample, shoved it through the datamining app in Excel just to see if it throws up anything that I might not have thought of. That's been quite a good method to give me some 'out of the box' concepts that I would have otherwise missed.

Appreciate the link and would like to get up to speed quickly on using it.

Without giving any of your trading secrets away is there any chance of giving us an example.

It's a fascinating world this automated betting :!:

Many thanks,

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
