Stop Loss not firing

Postby Tony5578 » Tue May 04, 2010 3:41 pm

In the last two days I have noticed that the stop loss is not firing on some of my lay bets. It's an intermittent problem and I'm not changing any of the settings between races. I've only been using the system for a couple of weeks but I haven't noticed it before. I read an old posting on this from last year and if I read it right, it can happen when odds are changing very quickly. Is this a common occurrence?

Is it the stop loss bet that is a lay bet? If it's a lay bet and not a level loss and the odds are more than double the odds of the matched back bet then it will not place the stop loss. If this isn't the case then are you sure the issue isn't that the stop loss isn't getting matched? You can check the transaction log under the accounts menu and see if there are any entries for the stop loss bets.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. The stop loss is a back bet. I will check the transaction log as you suggest but I guess you are right and it is just the case that the stop loss is not being matched. Am i right in thinking that using offset ticks would increase my chances of the stop loss being matched? I did try this yeserday but I only needed the stop loss once so I can't really say for sure if it helped

Thanks
Tony

That setting has no effect on the stop loss. It is always fired one tick lower than the current best lay odds (or 1 tick higher than the best back odds in the case of a lay bet). The 1 tick offset is not currently configurable but will be a in a future release.

Thanks. Do you have any plans to link stop losses with conditional bets?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
