Received a charge for data usage?!

Postby jackhu1k » Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:03 am

Hello

I've recieved my first ever charge for data usage and not sure why. My betting pattern hasn't changed but somehow I received a charge of £3.29 for useage on the 30th March.

I've checked my settings and BA it is set to thottle limit of 10 requests per second (allow 20 per second before request).

How could this have happened please and what can I do to avoid charges in the future.

I should add I only have one market open at a time and have the grid open along with pop out ladder.

Hi,

Did you have another API application open at the same time as using Betting Assistant?

Also you can ask Betfair for a breakdown of the charge which hopefully would shed some light on to why you were charged.

Regards,
Mark

Do you know how the normal ladder interface works? If so then the popup ladder is best described as the ladder interface in a separate popup window which can display varying rows and columns of ladders.

It's possible to display a popup ladder at the same time as the standard grid. Tick "Enable popup ladders" in grid preferences. You can then click the "L" in the market header bar to display the popup.

The following video should give you the idea.

Betfair got back to me. It was due to having the program open twice.

I think this occurred when my PC crashed and so reverted to backup PC. Then went back to first PC but didn't close software on 2nd PC so had two running at once. I will be more carefull in future, although in effect I was only viewing/betting on two markets at once and this pushed me over their limits?? I dread to think of the charges people pay that like to bet on multiply markets at once!

Hi,

Whilst using only 1 instance of Betting Assistant you can have has many markets open as you like within reason and BA will handle the requests based on the preference setting and when necessary will throttle the requests.

Hi there

Just want to make sure about this.

On the moment I have three pages in BA open , but all of them are on the same market.

Will that occur charges or not. I set the throttling to 7 in BA settings.

Thanx

If you have throttling set to 7 and no other API applications open then there is no chance of incurring the charge. The fact they are the same market is irrelevant.

Even if you had 50 markets open and set the throttling to 20 as long as you didn't have any other API applications running, a separate instance of Betting Assistant running or the Betfair website open then you would not be charged.

Hi Philuk,

Tried looking at your BFP System and this is what I got. Can you advise. Many Thanks :)

You (user name rmitchell1) have just tried to access the document titled "BFP Results -- 366k".

This document is located in the KeepandShare account "bfpsystem".

To view it you need to ask the owner of the account "bfpsystem" to set the Share With controls to give your KeepandShare user name "rmitchell1" rights to view the document.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
