I got this reply from Betfair about the poor service on the API this last week.

Thank you for your e-mail.

We are aware that Betfair did experience technical issue’s this morning which caused problems with loading certain pages of the website. We are pleased to announce all these issue’s have now been fixed and the site should be working as normal.
We would like to apologise for this interruption and I have attached some instructions which should resolve any further issue’s if you are still having problems with loading the website.
On Mozilla Firefox please click:-
Tools >> Clear Recent History >> Time range to clear: Everything >> Clear Now.
Secondly please make sure that you do not have Betfair saved as a favourite/bookmark as this can also cause errors to occur.
You can then refresh your browser by holding down 'Ctrl' and then tapping 'F5' once. You will then need to login to your account again.
On Internet Explorer please click:-
Tools >> Internet Options >> Delete >> From here please delete the temporary internet files and the cookies also.
Secondly please make sure that you do not have Betfair saved as a favourite/bookmark as this can also cause errors to occur.
Once this is done, please restart your PC and try logging into Betfair as normal.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

Kind regards

They obviously didn't read the mail I sent them and just sent out a standard reply, unbelievably sloppy customer service.

This is starting to look more and more like a deliberate attack on the Betfair site. That's the only conclusion I can come to because, if that is not the case, surely the developers should easily have been able to solve the problems by now, particularly as the platform has been quite stable for the last couple of weeks.

"We have made some changes to the Betfair API this morning and it is now stable.

We are continuing to monitor the API closely."

If their site is under attack, they should tell us, I expect most people would have some sympathy if that is the cause. As it is, I'm inclined to think that the problems stem from the greed that you described in another thread, combined with a large dose of incompetence.

no CANCEL, no P&L

Postby mike » Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:51 pm

Hi,

A new error today with the API and very risky!!! During the last hour the CANCEL-command is not working AND my matched bets are not reflected in the P&L of any particular market! This gives an extreme risk since my stakes are dependent on the values in the P&L. In this case my staking goes infinite, until my bankroll is zero.....

I had exactly the same errors around a year ago when the API was unstable.

I had also the disruption problems last weekend, but the error above is much worse because it is extremely risky. I am an international user.

regards,
Mike

Interestingly, I just had cause to phone Betfair to find out if they'd changed their in-running delay on horse racing as I noticed that during the last 2 races at Kempton, it took about 2 or 3 times longer for my bets to appear in the P&L column.

I do think that the API is still having problems and thank god I'm off to Thailand for a holiday cos I think this could take a while to resolve.

Take care guys.

I know Doris. I had exactly the same problem one year ago, and i was very happy when it was eventually solved. I am quiet sure it's related to the API disruptions, although this is much worse than a disruption only, due to the high risk. I really hope Betfair will solve this problem soon! You should expect the cause to be more or less the same as last year.

Mike

Betting Assistant does not use the P&L call from Betfair. It retrieves the list of matched bets and calculates the P&L from this. Are you saying the matched bets were appearing in Betting Assistant, but the P&L didn't agree or that the matched bets also did not appear in Betting Assistant?

Hi Gary,

i mean the P&L's for the particular markets: the numbers in red and green on a match. They were both blank in BA and in Excel.

And the matched and unmatched bets were not vissible in BA. And the CANCEL-ALL command was not working. Exactly the same problem as last year when there were API problems.

What I mean is were the matched bets in the bets manager at the bottom of the screen in Betting Assistant or were they missing. I would expect them to be missing if the P&L was blank.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
