Starting Price Rounding

Postby Magic Murf » Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:13 pm

Hi,

BA shows (and passes to Excel) the Starting Price to 2 decimal places. I don't know if this is the format supplied by Betfair, but the Betfair calculation is at a greater level of detail.

Does anyone know what rounding rule is used (either by Betfair or BA) to come to this 2-decimal-place version (round-to-nearest, round-up or round-down)?

(I know it seems pretty trivial, but it's been throwing off some of my calculations)

thanks,

Murf.

I can confirm that BA has not applied any rounding. It's the way it has been returned by the API unfortunately.

Thanks Gary :) ,

I'll pass my query on to Betfair,

Murf.

In case anyone else is looking for this info in future and stumbles on this topic, the SP that Betfair passes out to BA is TRUNCed:

i.e. if they calculate the SP to be 2.45999999, it'll come out as 2.45 rather than 2.46.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
