Profit / Loss column - details

Postby jokerjoe » Tue Jun 30, 2009 11:24 am

I was wondering if I could get some info on the P&L column in Excel.

- How often is it refreshed?
- Where does it come from, BA calculations of bets or the API function?
- Basically are there any reasons to not use it in continuous real-time triggers?

It is refreshed as often as the prices. They are the same figures you can see on the grid interface in Betting Assistant. The figures are calculated from the list of bets retrieved from Betfair. The P&L function provided by Betfair is not used as the figures can occasionally be slightly behind the list of bets.

There's no reason not to use the figures in your triggers.

Thanks Gary.

Quick question about the fill or kill bet references, do they behave like this:

Unfilled: Bet Ref , then CANCELLED (0 matched stake)
Part Filled: Bet Ref & "P", then Bet Ref (matched stake <> requested stake)
Fully Filled: Bet Ref (matched stake = requested stake)

Correct except that after the bet has been killed there will not be a partially unmatched portion so in the 2nd scenario the bet ref will no longer have "P" appended.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
