Multiple Bot Problem

Postby Spike » Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:53 pm

Hello,

Some background to my probelm: I made myself a great a great in-running bot that seems to work really well- but it's hard to work out the optimum settings for it. So what I tried to do was run a number bots on the same races all with slightly different setting and see which worked out best over a week or so, that's where the problems started.

When I run several bots at once my results for all the bots decline dramatically, at first I thought this could just be luck- this is gambling after all and there is variabiltiy, but after a lot of races I became certain that the number of bots was a problem- it's quite clear that the more bots I run the worse the outcome.

I reasoned that this may be to do with the in running delay, with several bots betting on the same selections micro seconds apart I thought that perhaps my in-running delays were stacking up- so that by the time the fourth bot bet it might be delayed by 4 seconds and therefore put at a dis-advantage. So today I tried running each bot on a separate account through a separate instance of BA (although all on the same computer)- and again got dismal results. Does anyone have any idea why this might be? The computer is not slowing down at all, and the bets are too small to be affecting the market. Is this something to do with the in-running delay? Or is there something I'm missing? I am quite certain that it's the number of bots that's the problem as whenever I run just one bot it never fails to be a killer. Any help please.....

Maybe they're all going after the same slice of the pie and only one can take it if the markets not that liquid.

Don't think so- we're talking top notch horse races here and teeny weeny stakes....

Hooray! Fixed it. Feedback init. Bets from one bot getting matched and affecting the LTP that triggers the other bots. DOH. Feel I've been a bit stupid not to realise this earlier and as a result missed out on money, but I'm happy that my droids are back on song.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
