Excel - Fill or Kill

Postby steve1parker » Mon Jul 10, 2017 12:40 pm

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to BA and still learning the ropes...so forgive what perhaps is a silly question.

I'm developing two Excel workbooks that will work in tandem; one placing bets an hour before the off, the other (knowing what the first workbook did), places bets 10 mins before the off. I need a simple way of cancelling unmatched bets...and that leads me to my question.

If the first workbook places a lay bet with the fill or kill modifier with a period of say 40 minutes i.e. 2400 seconds, will the fill/kill instruction persist if my spreadsheet moves onto the next market? If not, what will happen...i.e. will it be just a normal lay bet that either does or does not get filled (or partially filled), and the remaining unmatched sits there?

Any help appreciated.

All fill /kill options will be lost if you navigate away from the market, it'll just remain there with whatever persistance options (ie SP, go inplay etc) you oiginally sent it with.

You can log all bets to a sheet within your workbook called mybets so the second sheet will be able to see what bets have been placed and matched and could then make any decision from there.

Thanks Captain Sensible. That's a shame...but is fine...I'll just use the CANCEL trigger in my second sheet. I'm already using VBA to log the bets placed by the sheet (MyBets shows all bets placed...including manual...so I used VBA to log bets placed specifically by this sheet). Thanks again :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
