Using the Multi page excel QL - badly

Postby Fixador » Fri Jul 07, 2017 7:31 am

Hi All,
Damn these light mornings - awake at 4 am ! So to use the time purposely - I decided to tackle 'issues' for me which I have been putting off... Four questions:-

(1) Probably a dump question - but I have found it rather 'hit & miss' over the years.... Profiles : How do I set up a new profile ? Do I start from 'default' and modify to my requirement - including the Multi page excel QL - then in Profile, save as a NEW profile - and give it a name ? If I exit Gruss, and log in again, I can then choose the profile I have just created ?

(2) Or is the Multi page excel QL not saveable into a Profile ? Is there some way I can 'call' up the previous days Multi page QL without having to fill in all the details again ?

Multi Page Excel QL:-

What I have got : One WorkBook, One Sheet , which is Gruss linked - the worksheet 'determines' the horse race winner, then opens a second workbook 'Results' ( if closed ) to export Winner to, then closes the 'Results' Workbook - and if the 'Results' is open - wait 5 secs, and try and open it again.

Objective : with the loss of an rapid results service - now chargeable ! I decided to try detecting the horse race winner directly from BF exchange data - ( each of Saturday 6 venues in separate sheets of ONE workbook ) then export the winner to a 7th Worksheet of that WORKBOOK.
Why separate sheets for each venue ? Races going off late and/or 5 min time gaps between UK races on a Saturday.

Moving on : Multi Page excel QL :Results of test :-

(2) Multi Page Excel QL:- Which way to go ?
2.1 My Excel Workbook has 6 tabs - ie, 6 sheets - I link to the workbook 6 times, and link to each sheet once.

I tried this -and have 5 'read-only' instances of Excel - bummer !
Also, there is an issue for me - the same Venue first race was named in the Page tab - where as I intended to have EACH page to just have ONE different venue - what did I not do ?

2.2 I have 6 Excel WorkBooks, each only having one page - and use the multi page excel QL to link to the 6 different WORKBOOKS - as I am seeking to compile the Winners into a single list - it would have to be into a 7th Workbook 'Results', using the 6 workbooks vba controls to and open and close the 7th workbook as a winner is 'detected' in each of the 6 workbooks - as per my existing arragement

Gone off to try 2.2 - back later.

Gruss BA 1.3.0.37a

I hate doing this 'reply to my own post ' !

Logged into Gruss , choosing the my new MultiSheet profile :-

(1) New Profile set up - as detailed in prior post . Each Venue is in a separate Page - Awesome ! good one Gruss.

(2.2 ) Now, ONE WorkBook, of One Sheet to track for winners:-

Went into MultiSheet excel QL, and re directed the 6 all pointing at one WorkBook with 6 sheets - to instead 6 WorkBooks of 1 sheet. Great - hit 'Save and Close' and all 6 Pages now had the full list of UK races - bummer !

Also, I want to remove the 7th line of the Excel Multisheet QL ( I never linked this - or something - as there is no Page for it )

Problem : logged in again :Profiles : Lost the label 'default' - choose Profile 'MultiSheet' and 'default loaded' - drats

In Profiles : deleted ' MultiSheet', create new profile 'default'. Now modify the 'default': -

(a) Preferences : all UK Win, Click - load different venues into seperate tab pages, QP list above tree, no Aussie - this time, dont select " Auto load quick pick List when new tab added'

(b) Excel : log Multisheets - fill in individual Workbook across each line -
Use 'Auto Select option to ' At specific time b4 off'
Select 'auto select minutes b4 off' and set time offset
Click ' auto select first Market'

(c) Save and close Excel Quick Link

then do a SAVE Profile to 'MultiSheet'.... log out, log in again & choose profile 'MultiSheet2'

got 'default' profile - damn

Now on profile MultiSheet4 : The QP list is still populating ALL of todays races on the LHS of the screen, and the Excel Workbooks are ALL 'read-only'

Back at 5 am tomorrow morning to crack on.

You are using Gruss to determine the winner of a race and create an Excel list? Is that correct?

if so, why not just use a horse racing results service like http://www.racing-bet-data.com/ - even the free (basic) service will allow you to obtain this in Excel format alot easier than creating macro's based on the exchange odds (which may give you inaccuracies)

Hello Vanbuuts,

Yes, you are correct, I am creating a list of winners - and NOT prepared to wait for the official result - for me that is only a delayed 'backup' so to speak. ( this not for martingale purposes ).

Do racing bet data wait for the 'official' BF result ? - Free sounds interesting !!!

'official' BF result : that I find, that can be 10 mins after the race end.

The official result will always be delayed as they need to wait for the jockeys to weigh in, stewards etc Betfair have their own rss feed that gives quick results same as racing post and sporting life do

Hello Captain Sensible,
I'd forgotten about the RSS feed - thanks.

My challenge - for my sins (many) is to get the winner faster than the official result. The reason being, I am toying around with a high / low staking methodology - which - IF I can get it working , I hope to usually avoid excessive volatility. Ofcourse catching the winner seconds after the market has been continuously suspended for 15 seconds - isn't going to work every time - ie, photo finishes ! and Dead heats - but I hope I have some tolerance of the occasional error - ie, and have to wait for the 'official' result.

Currently, when logging on - my 'Profile' situation for multiple tab pages each, with venue in one tab page worked - though I confess I have confused myself as to how I got there !

BUT, when I go into the log to Excel multisheet window, and start logging - then the QP for that tab Page changes from being races for just one venue - to all races, all venues

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
