Back at SP to Lay in running with weird result and loss.

Postby brumbie » Wed May 31, 2017 9:59 pm

Could anybody help me here, I put a back to lay bet on $5 @ 180 SP and $25 @ 36 in running. It was managed on excel by using: BACK-SP-PL80. I have never had a problem over the last few weeks with this formula but today, even tho the price went down as far as 19.00 in running, not only was I not matched at 36 but I was matched weirdly at 173.64 at bits and bobs to make up a return of around $5.As far as I know this was not a stake under the $5 Aussie rule but still gruss went thro the routine of laying at 1.01 etc.Now my bank in that account isn't a lot but surely once the back bet has taken place then that covers all liabilities? Could anyone enlighten me as to what might of happened?..thanks guys.

Just to elaborate on this, it does seem to be that the bet was taken before the off of 180 and the starting price was 173.64. This seems to suggest that my bet was layed off at starting price...any thoughts?

I'm going to hazard a guess at this and suggest that because the bet was (unusually) taken before the off I had not taken sufficient steps to cater for this outcome and therefore the offset lay was never going to go into play as a -IP at the end was needed...BACK-SP-PL80-IP. But could anyone suggest as to why the offset was settled at SP price?

Hi,

Your original trigger was BACK-SP-PL80

You said that the back bet got matched before the off which meant that your lay bet would have been submitted before the off using the -PL80 modifier to calculate the odds for the lay bet.
But the lay bet must still have been unmatched at the off which meant that -SP then took affect which instructed the bet to be matched at SP odds at the off.
Perhaps you didn't realise that the -SP would apply to both the original bet and the offset bet.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks Mark, all good. As the $5 is on the minimum bet for aus I will in future default to BACKSP-PL80 which should ensure SP at all times. I was being lazy by stipulating the acceptable price at 1.5 times sp assuming it would never get to that but of course on bigger prices that is always a possibility.1000 should of been the go.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
