Help with trigger

Postby MatGreenaway » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:18 pm

Hi,

I’m trying something completely new for me, but having a problem with some lay bets not being matched. Basically, I have my own Excel-driven criteria, then am using a the following trigger BACK-TL5-SL2-SP – this should just place a back bet, then seek a lay bet 5 ticks lower, with level profit and it also requests a stop loss so if the price moves up 2 ticks, then it will lay at that price to stop any significant loss. I was being lazy and could use Excel to manually place a lay bet if the price didn’t move significantly and I was left with a back bet and no corresponding lay bet, but instead added -SP so it would at least do the lay bet but at SP.

This was working, but I noticed a few LAY bets were not getting made (the liability was at least £15 for all these bets – I am aware of the minimum £10 liability).

I changed the trigger to turn the lay bet to In Play and again, thought that had resolved my issue, but again, today, had two races where the lay bet did not happen. Am I doing anything wrong? I must add at this point, I did notice a schoolboy error and I had an erroneous space in the trigger so I actually had BACK-TL5- SL2-IP (note the space before the SL2) – would this be my only problem? I’ve corrected this now but thought I would post anyway. Does a space mean everything after the space is ignored?

I'm assuming the Back bet was matched prior to the off?

I think you should be using IPC - to enable the Lay bet to carry on "in play" if it is not matched before the off
or SPC - to enable the lay bet to be matched at SP odds at the moment the market turns in play

It may explain why some lays were matched (ones where the odds drifted by 2 or more ticks before the off) and some weren't (original back was matched prior to the race - but neither the stop loss or tick offset were matched before the start)

I've tried something very similar for a few weeks and gave up as it was not profitable so it will be interesting to see how you get on. I might even have my old sheets saved somewhere - I guess its all about selection of horse and timing of the initial bet

Hi, Thanks very much for your reply - I hadn't seen toulhe SPC and IPC when glancing over the guide. I will try to see what those options do. Funnily, since removing the space which shouldn't have been in the trigger, they have gone to being loss making.

I had only been analysing some data for a month and then did the spreadsheet to make the bets so I'm fully expecting it to be not profitable over the long term, but thought I'd give it a go. I've been doing some other spreadsheet triggered betting since 2008 and that is profitable (well, was until around 2012, but now isn't anywhere near as profitable!)

Thanks for your comments - always happy for any help!

Hope you have a good days betting.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
