Additional columns forecast price

Postby jonboysez » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:01 pm

Hi
I'm sure someone has asked this question before - using excel triggered betting I'm trying to compare the forecast odds to the current odds i.e. IF Y5 > 10 and F5 > 10 "BACK" (Y5 being the top line of the additional column after the box is ticked) - but its completely ignoring the instructions that the forecast price has to be over 10 and firing in any where the back odds are over 10 (regardless of what the forecast odds are). Can the numbers in the additional column not be used in any formulas? i.e. are they just like a picture?

Hi,

The Additional Columns data is not sent in image format.
The spreadsheet should recognise the Forecast Odds as a number.
What Cell Formatting do you have on the column?
Can we see your exact formula?

Mark

I tried reducing it to a bare minimum in the end and just used =IF(AND($E$2<>"In Play",Y5>33,AG5<>""),"BACK","") and ran it down for 30 horses - The Y column being the forecast prices (I only staked 1p just in case) and the AG ref is a column asking to display the odds of any horse between certain live odds otherwise leave blank, so for instance, back any horse whose forecast price is over 33 and whose current odds are between 30 and 40 before the race goes in-play - it backed every horse and on the spreadsheet all the triggers where blank except the one opposite the sole horse where Y10 was actually over 33 which had BACK entered in it - I even tried using a separate column so that if the forecast price was over 33 it would put a 1 in the cell or leave it blank and that also didn't work. I removed the computer-generated forecast column and tried just entering the forecast numbers myself and then it worked properly so I'm puzzled.

OOPS adjustment to my previous reply (I should have written - it backed every horse that matched the AG criteria - I entered the AG rule later as wondered if that somehow interferes with it, and forgot to alter the rest of the explanation)

Hi,

That's strange. It definitely gets recognised as a number when I've tested this. If you do =Y5/1 in a spare cell does that formula produce an error or does it do the calculation?

No that works ok - how do I attach a file showing how my spreadsheet looks after the bets have been fired in? Every type of file extension I use it says its not allowed!

Hi again
I've just tried stripping the trigger right down =IF(AND($E$2<>"In Play",Y5>10),"BACK","") - It ignores the condition Y5>10 and backs every horse in the race!

Hi,

The spreadsheet you have uploaded is not showing how the data comes from Betting Assistant.
It doesn't show what was in column Y nor can I see your formulas.
To trigger a bet you have to populate the trigger cell with a valid trigger word which must be happening if you are getting bets.
You are using an IF statement from what I understand and therefore the True part of the IF statement must be being satisfied.
The assumption then is that there is a logic error but I can't tell from what you have sent.

Mark

Hi
So is there something wrong with putting the formula =IF(AND($E$2<>"In Play",Y5>10),"BACK","") down the Q column and with the forecast price box ticked in extra columns? Can someone else please try this? - I'm using windows 7 and excel 2003 and betting assistant 1.3.0.37a

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
