Ping problems

Postby luca » Sun Nov 16, 2014 8:19 pm

Since Betfair changed API I noticed that sometimes Ping is jumping. Not all the time but when it starts to jump it goes very high 150-500!

Did anyone notice the same thing?

Cheers,
Luca

Ping problem solved itself. It didn't jump once today.

But yeah thanks again for a quick answers... Really helpful this forum....
I understand that theres a lot of work since the change of API, but this is my daily job so I would like to have quick support from owners of the software which I pay for because they are the only people that can tell me for sure if something goes wrong at their end or mine.

I worte that reply too quick. It started to jump again (4.35 UK time). Not big jumps but still up to 150.
Anyone having the same problems?

That could be just an ISP issue. They sometimes have glitches but it goes away after few hours.

Whats an "ISP"? Why did it start to jump after the change of API?
Ping never used to do that before unless there was some problems at Betfairs end.

@Mark Russell - Can you confirm that everything works well at your end and that Ping is stable? Because if so I need to ring my internet provider and try to look for a solution there.

Unfortunately many non UK users are experiencing high ping times. I believe this is an API issue. Are you using the ladder interface with full market depth?

Hi Gary,

Yes I'm using the ladder interface with full market depth.

Do you think I should write to betair and ask them what causes those Ping jumps and wether it's gonna get sorted soon?
It doesnt cause me very much problems as them jumps happen only sometimes during the whole day of races, but there are situations that money get snached right from under my nose.

Thank you for your help Gary.

All the best,
Luca

If you you ask them directly they will just direct you to us. Please leave it with us.

In the meantime do you need full market depth? Would a depth of say 10 or 15 prices instead be any use? There is an option to specify the depth in ladder preferences. You also have to untick the full market depth if you use this option. This reduces the data on each refresh and may help as another user did see a big difference with this.

My trading system requires full market depth because sometimes I'm trading on favourite, sometimes on mid-range horses and sometimes on high priced horses. It all depends on where I see the right movements. On mid-priced and high-priced horses 10-15 stakes would not be enough.
I'd rather put up with them Ping jumps until you get it sorted. If you find a solution to this problem please let me know.

Ping becomes unberable Gary. I noticed that it starts to jump more often. I also noticed that it jumps when traded volume increses quickly (5 mins and below before the start).

Any progress with solving that? I thought its gonna setlle down after a while but its been 2 weeks since the introduction of API change and problem is still there. Please do something about it asap.

Luca

Slow responses from the API are beyond our control. The only thing I can do is make it as before where the traded volume and market depth data were requested in separate calls. This may improve the ping times but cannot guarantee it. I will see what I can do. I am confident it's not a fault in the software causing this.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
