API-ERROR ON LAYSP in EXCEL

Postby 4legs » Fri May 27, 2011 3:50 am

I am trying to lay a number of runners in the same race using LAYSP - the trigger comes up ok but I get the API_ERROR
Details:
LAYSP is in col Q
Odds: 100 in col R
Stake: $30 in col S (this is betfair SP min in Oz)

Version is: 1.1.0.65z6. I get the same error on Windows 7 machine and also on the Laptop Vista.

Normal BACK Trigger Works

Is there some other thing I have to set - or any ideas what could be causing it.

Thanks ... Fred

I cannot replicate this. API_ERROR is usually a problem at Betfair's end. Try again today and let me know if it's still happening then I will investigate further.

Error still persists.

Contacted Betfair, but they did not want to know about the problem and said to contact the software developer - it would be their problem!
Further Information:

It is the same error on both machines:
Laptop is running Visa with Avast internet security
Desktop running Windows 7 with AVG internet secturity

Both Machines connect directly to the modem via cable (ADSL2). I would say a very reliable internet connection.

No problems with any other program.

I am at a complete loss with one as I am finding it difficut to find what will cause an API-ERROR and also if there is a setting that I have missed; but reading all the forums and User guide it all seems so straight forward.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ... Fred

If you send a copy of the spreadsheet to admin@gruss-software.co.uk after this error has occurred I can see if I can replicate it. It is likely that there is something wrong in your spreadsheet, but without seeing it myself it is sometimes very difficult to diagnose.

It's irrelevant that you don't have problems with other programs because this is a very specific issue. It's also absolutely nothing to do with your internet connection. It's pointless contacting Betfair. If anyone is going to solve this problem it will be us. It is our software. When I said the problem could have been at Betfair's end I did not mean that you should contact Betfair, I was not passing the buck.

Thanks Gary; Thanks Shaun - another Aussie I see - although 4,500 Klms away ( I am in Brissie).

This is truely a weird one; but hopefully we will sort it out. I love the idea of the excel interface - great concept ... Fred

Shaun was kind enough to send me a lay spreadsheet last night, which was virtually the same as mine except 2 fields appeared on his which were not on mine. There were:

    Code: Select all
Cell   Heading   Shauns Value      My Value
    J3   Blank                66                      Blank
    L3   IR Delay                  1                       0

Is this relevant and where/how would I change mine to the above.

Many thanks ... Fred

I don't think it's relevant. I have released version 1.1.0.65z7 today. This will log exactly what is being sent to Betfair's API. The next time you get API_ERROR please send the file named BA_Diagnostic.txt in "c:\temp\Betting Assistant Logs" to admin@gruss-software.co.uk
The log will show me the exact contents of the request sent to Betfair's API. If I cannot see anything wrong in this request I will then report it to Betfair. I think this will probably be the case.

I have received confirmation from Betfair that it is an API bug so we will have to wait for Betfair to fix it unfortunately.

Today I layed (SP) every Aus race - (23 in total) without a problem - I would say my problem is fixed. Thanks Gary.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
