Excel problems - URGENT

Postby gvigliani » Tue Nov 09, 2010 3:30 pm

Hi Gary,

Today the program is updated automatically but I do not see the Excel file. I had already downloaded this version but I had to uninstall it for the same reason. Is there a way to avoid the automatic update or fix it?

Thanks

If not too much trouble can you send the diagnostic log after you try and connect to admin@gruss-software.co.uk

It's named BA_Diagnostic.txt and is in the folder named c:\temp\Betting Assistant Logs

You can then install the previous Beta from the link below. This version will not auto update.

However, the version Betting_Assistant_Beta_W4_No_Update.msi, unfortunately, is updated and also does not allow me to bet.

Try the official release version 1.1.0.65z1 which the vast majority of users are using without problems.
http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Betting ... istant.msi

If this version doesn't work then it was nothing to do with the latest Beta update, something else has gone wrong. The log does suggest that something has gone wrong with Excel's COM interface, but you should try this version just to confirm.

Hi Gary
I have the same issue with 1.1.0.66x37: ´Workbook name´ drop-down is not populated. The log says:
System.Exception: Cannot create ActiveX component.
at Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.GetObject(String PathName, String Class)
at Betting_Assistant.ExcelOptions.populateWorkBooks(String openWBName) in C:\Betting Assistant Beta 1_1_0_66x37\Betfair Trading API Beta\ExcelOptions.vb:line 632

1.1.0.65z1 works fine.

Cheers,
Ellen

The next Beta release will contain a possible fix for this.

Hi Gary,

the problem identified by Ellen still exists - not sure whether you had a chance to fix it in the last release.

The way the problem appears to me is that the drop down list only contains the first excel spreadsheet I've opened. Any subsequent worksheets don't appear which they did before in the beta. This was useful to me.

If you need any more info. I'll gladly help.

Many Thanks.

Are you using the browse button to open the spreadsheets?

Can you email the diagnostic log to admin@gruss-software.co.uk
It's named BA_Diagnostic.txt and is located in c:\temp\Betting Assistant Logs

Hi Gary,

yes, I use the Browse button to open the spreadsheet initially. When I then want to change to a new market, then I leave it open but it doesn't appear in the drop down list.

What I've been doing this pm is to then use the browse button again which opens a read only version of the spreadsheet which I then close but Gruss then 'recognizes' the original instance and allows me to connect to the spreadsheet. I hope that makes sense.

I've e-mail a copy of the diagnostics, I hope you can make sense of it !! - it's just confusing to me!

Many Thanks,

Ian

Sorry I still need a bit of clarification on exactly what you doing. Can you list the exact steps you take up until the point where it isn't showing the worksheet in the drop down. I can then follow the same steps.

I'll try and describe the scenario.

I have two spreadsheets Trading and Trading1 which are running simultaneously on two seperate races. They are in seperate workbooks.

1. I select Browse and Trading appears in the workbook name drop down box. I click the ok button and connect to Trading for the first race.

2. For the second race, I select Browse and select Trading1 and Trading1 does appear in the workbook name drop down box. I can click on the o.k. button and connect to Trading1 for the 2nd race.

At this stage everything would appear to be o.k. and I have two instances of Excel running.

Should I then want to change Trading1 to another race. I would then unclick Log Current Prices under the Excel menu on BA, leaving Trading1 open. I would then change to a different race on BA and look to reconnect the new race to Trading1.

I wouldn't click Browse at this stage and would normally click on the arrow on the workbook name box which would then list both worksheets, I would select Trading1 and then click OK.

It is this last step which is not happening. When I click on the arrow on the drop down menu I am only presented with the option of connecting to Trading - Trading1 is absent from the list.

I didn't notice a problem at the week end and only experienced this today after the release you did overnight.

Hope that helps.

I cleared the diagnostic log and then reopened BA and went through the above process, so the only contents on the log are related to the problem. When I couldn't see the 2nd spreadsheet on the dropdown box I then closed BA. I've e-mailed the diagnostic log again.

Thanks for the description. I can see exactly what the problem is now and it has been caused by my fix for the other issue. I am working on a solution now.

Is there any specific reason why you need to stop the link between races? You can change races while it's still connected. It's just that I think you might be making life harder for yourself.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
