Yet Another COM Interface query...

Postby grimesy » Sat Jun 12, 2010 10:33 pm

Sorry guys, but having the same issue again that has plagued many a user...

The VBA code that is failing to compile is:-

Code:

If ba Is Nothing Then
Set ba = New BettingAssistantCom.ComClass
End If

I have tried the following to rectify same, namely:

1) un-installed BA and re-installed with latest version;

2) installed new[er] versions of Excel; currently working from 2007
version;

3) treble-checked the config. settings in the "how to use COM interface" section of the User Guide;

4) re-read each and every thread on this issue on this forum;

5) numerous reboots of BA.

I believe the config file is named correctly; below are the details of my Office 12 Directory:-

Filename: Excel.exe.config
Location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
Type: CONFIG File [opens with Notepad]

Code:
<configuration>
<startup>
<supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>
<supportedRuntime version="v1.1.4322"/>
</startup>
</configuration>[img]

Very much struggling as to what is going wrong...Gary/Mark/other BA users - can anyone shed any light on this?

In particular, Gary/Mark - could I possibly get a copy of your Excel.exe.config file, if this issue continues?

Many Thanks

I had one user who thought they had done everything correctly except they had file extensions hidden and the config file was named incorrectly, but they could not see it. When viewing C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 In Windows Explorer can you see "Excel" or "Excel.exe" as the filename for the actual Excel executable?

Hi osknows,

Nope, unfortunately.

The VBA compiler can't find the ba object.

I've also just re-checked Tools | References in my VBA Project - and BettingAssistabtCom is "ticked".

Indeed the compiler is struggling to also recognise the WithEvents object [a property of ba, I imagine].

Hi Gary, I actually found the post on the thread above you refer to, from Dec 2009. The URL you suggested linking to was: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-401

I used this yesterday to remove the hidden file extensions from my windows directory.

I have the file extensions displayed at the moment; as such, I can see "Excel.exe" as the filename for the actual MS Excel executable file;

Similarly, when I [temporarily] switched back to hidden filepath extensions, the file name available for viewing became "Excel".

I know that the "How to use COM" section of 'Help'explicity states that Excel.exe must be amended...is my error caused by the incorrect config of "Excel" [instead of "Excel.exe"] to "Excel.exe.config" via notepad?

Tried this on another computer - and still can't get the bloody thing to work!

Gary/Mark - could you please email me a copy of the Excel.exe.config file?
That way, I can copy to my Office 12 folder and run that way.

At my wits' end with this one...help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

It's unusual that you tried on two separate computers and had the same problem.

I have emailed the config file.

I notice you are using version 1.1.0.62. This is not the latest version. Try upgrading to version 1.1.0.65n.
Uninstall the current version using the Windows control panel and then install from the link below. Unfortunately you will lose you preferences and have to re-enter them.

If you still cannot get it to work do you want me to try and help with our remote assistance software?

Hi Gary,

Firstly, many thanks for answering the distress siren I sent out.

Outstanding customer service on a Sunday! :D

I've reviewed the file you emailed to me [many thanks for this]; two things struck me:-

- the file icon on your version shows the image of a notepad file [mine
didn't];

- secondly, your config MS-DOS code was "all on one line"; I've copied
word-for-word from the Help set-up.

Interestingly, when I copied your file across, I was asked by my OS did I wish to replace the existing file named "Excel.exe".

So it looks like I may have actually set the file up correctly [subject to the two points I raised above].

I'll now re-install, as you have recommended - any further issues & I will give you a shout.

I'll update other readers of thos forum on this progress - just in case existing or future users experience the same issue that I have.

Many thanks again Gary.

issue caused by the 1st tab on my workbook not being the one into which BF data is fired [instead, it was a planner for the work outstanding on my bot].

A very elementary mistake - hopefully this thread will prevent other users from making this mistake!

Thank you to all that answered - particularly, Gary.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
