Is it your own spreadsheet or an example from this site?
Are you attempting to use the COM interface functions?

I don't think it's a bug. It sounds like a configuration issue. Please view the user guide via the help menu and select "Using COM interface" from the left hand menu. You will find instructions on how to configure the COM interface. Your problem is probably a missing Excel.exe.config file.

I am the "friend" in question. I can confirm both this spreadsheet and the test_ba spreadsheet work fine on my set up. We have tried the following:

1) uninstalled BA and reinstalled with latest version

2) Checked that .net framework 2.0 is fully up to date

3) Checked, and double checked the configuration settings in the "how to use COM interface" section of the User Guide.

The code that is faling is
Code: Select all
    If ba Is Nothing Then
        Set ba = New BettingAssistantCom.ComClass
    End If

There is a public decalartion outside of the Sub as follows:

Code: Select all
Dim WithEvents ba As BettingAssistantCom.ComClass

I am unsing Excel2007, but, I don't believe this is the issue as test_ba.xls does not work either, so this is a configuration issue in my opinion. Could be wrong though!

BettingAssistant is running (my version is 1.1.0.63b) but Excel logging is not started, the spreadsheet uses pure COM interface calls. This works fine for me.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

There is definitely a file named Excel.exe.config containing the configuration info from the help file and it is in the same folder as Excel.exe?

When you view "References" from the Excel code editor is BettingAssistantCOM shown as missing?

I have asked jomage to confirm this, but I think so as I have mentioned it several times to him!

Yes, to the references bit as jomage has sent me a screen print of that.

Thanks for the help Gary. You are, as always, a Star!

The missing Excel.exe.config file is the only thing I can think of, it will definitely produce that error.

Is the config file named correctly? Jomage referred to it as Exel.exe (the "c" is missing) or was that just a typo?

Ah! It looks ok, but is it?

It looks like the file extension for known types is hidden. Therefore Excel.exe.config could have a file extension that we cannot see. My guess is that the file is actually named Excel.exe.config.txt because the type column indicates it is a text file.

Display file extensions, see http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-401 and make sure it is named Excel.exe.config and not Excel.exe.config.?

Ah, good thinking as notepad add the ".txt" extension if you aren't looking.

I bet that is it! I have emailed J my config file and asked him to replace it, I bet it just copies in with no warning about overwriting an existing file.

Sometimes the simplest errors are the hardest to spot!

I may be jumping the gun here, but many thanks for the help.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
