Bet under Betfair minimum stake

Postby gizzard » Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:57 pm

I have a spreadsheet set up that has been successfully placing Back bets 40 seconds before the start of play for $A3 (3 Australian Dollars, below the normal Betfair minimum of A$5).

However, for one race yesterday they were not successfully placed.
As it happened I was monitoring the bets being placed by directly watching the race on Betfair at the time under My Bets.

At 40 seconds before the start the bets could be seen as expected all of them with odds of 1000 for the stake of A$5. I expected them to then change to the odds requested (not 1000) and adjust the stake. As it happens, 1 bet was actually matched at 1000 and the stake matched was A$5.

40 seconds or so later the race went In Play, the bets were then cancelled and had never changed from the 1000 odds used when first placed even though none were requested at those odds but much less. I now was left with just the 1 bet on the market at A$5 instead of several at A$3.

All other bets that day were placed successfully at A$3.

The trigger that I've been using is BACK-F2.

Any ideas why this race might have gone wrong? I don't think it has anything to do with it but it contained the only bet placed that day at odds of 1000.

Are you placing many bets at the same time? There is a known issue where you will have problems if you are triggering more than 15 bets at the same time and at least one of them is below minimum stake. Could this have been your problem?

Sorry, I should know better.

If the bet that was matched was matched instantly then it will prevent the others from being updated to the correct odds and stakes. This is a bug that I will be fixing. It should be avoidable if you make sure you don't trigger bets if the back odds are close to 1000.

Thanks for your ultra-fast reply, as usual. It's really appreciated.

Yes, I was using the bot to place multiple bets simultaneously and they were all under the minimum stake but it averages about 4 at a time and in this case was 5 or 6, I could check the exact number if it helps. I did the same for many races not just this one but this was the only one that ended up with a bet matched at odds of 1000.
I have never triggered as many as 15 in one go.

Our emails crossed.
OK, I'll make an adjustment until the fix is in place. How will I know when it's been done?

There is a section in the user guide called "version history". We will put a note in there when it is fixed.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
