Unable to use UPDATE - what am I doing wrong ?

Postby xraymitch » Thu Oct 09, 2008 5:41 am

UPDATE
Update odds of unmatched bet. If the odds column is different to the current odds of the unmatched bet then the bet will be updated and the bet reference will be replaced.

Hi Folks,

My understanding of the UPDATE trigger is based on the extract above taken from the BA help file. Yet for me it never works, any suggestions as to where I am going wrong are much appreciated.

Last night I manually placed back bets above the current odds at £2 so that they would be unmatched, then I typed UPDATE into the corresponding cells in my BA logged spreadsheet expecting the bets now to be matched at the prevailing prices in the odds column but nothing happens.

Can anyone give me a simple example :)

Many thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray

It's the odds in column R in Excel which the bet will update to.
For example if you placed a £2 bet at odds of 9 in R5 using BACK and then change the odds from 9 to 7 in R5 and type UPDATE in Q5 the bet will update to odds of 7 and will be given a new Ref No.

Hope this helps
Cheers

Thanks for that Castillo, it has helped :)

As I already have the current odds in Column R I was expecting UPDATE to work no matter how a bet was made.

I need to rethink my macro as I now see it was based on a misunderstanding - shame :(

Much obliged, 8)

Is this why it's not working

Postby xraymitch » Tue Oct 21, 2008 6:34 am

Hi Gary,

I have struggled for a long time to understand why part of my update macro doesn't work.

So, as a test this morning
I manually placed a trigger offset bet BACK-TL3 in column Q,
which gave me a matched Back bet at odds of 5.40 to a stake of £2,
and a Lay bet of odds 5.10 unmatched to a stake of £2.12.
I then changed column R to the current lay odds of 5.70 and entered UPDATE in column Q the trigger field to no effect. :?

BUT, if instead I place a BACK bet trigger at odds of 5.4 stake £2,
then apply the CLEAR trigger after the bet is matched
and enter the LAY trigger at odds of 5.10 in column R
and stake of 2.12 in column S,
I am still left with my Lay unmatched except that now when I apply the UPDATE trigger after updating the odds in column R to 5.70,
the bet is now matched and I have the new bet reference with N appended which is all hunky dory. :)

Sorry the above is such a mouthful but if the above is correct then it does seem a shame !! :(

Would be obliged if you could confirm and enlighten me if I am wrong.

Many thanks as always for your time - it is really appreciated 8)

You are correct, the UPDATE trigger cannot update the offset bet because the bet reference for the offset bet is not in column T in your first example, but it is in your second example. It was designed to update the ref that is column T which only contains the first bet when placing offset bets.

Thanks for your super fast reply, if only I had asked you sooner I could have saved myself much hair pulling :)

Grateful thanks,

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
