Horse names and numbers?

Postby slochin » Tue Jun 13, 2017 5:38 am

Hello,
I was wondering if someone experienced with Aus racing and Excel could inform me if it is necessary to have both the horses number and name as it appears in the A column when trying to match horses?
For example
Menagle Harness in Excel ColA has

1. Zesitall

Whereas UK horse racing Lingfield has in ColA only the horses name.

Sporting Times

Why I ask this is I see UK races only have the names of the horses placed in col A in Excel and I have been working these ok. So does Betfair recognise Aus horse names only?

It looks like noone can assist further with this query re Australian horse racing. It's a shame this forum is not very active.I suppose because it is such a great product purchasers are busy running their programs.

I'd guess the data output is coming direct from the Betfair API feed so for whatever reason Betfair combine the race number and runner name at source, maybe that's just the standard way of displaying runners in Australia. So if you want to match runner you'll either need to add the runner number to the name or just strip it out before you check for a match. Stripping it out is easy enough as the data is always in a regular format. Just look at routines like split if you're using VBA or things like RIGHT and FIND if just usng formulas i.e. =TRIM(RIGHT( A1, LEN( A1 ) - FIND( ".", A1 ) ))

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
