Help with Triggered bets in linked Excel sheet

Postby SamP » Tue Nov 15, 2016 3:57 pm

Hello Everyone,
this is my first post so please be gentle!

I have linked an excel sheet to Gruss and want the sheet to trigger multiple Back bets during In Play. After a bet gets Matched it stops all other bets from taking place. I know (hope) that this is really simple to resolve but I am only just learning the potential of these sheets.

Also if anyone can direct me to any good resources I enjoy Back Systems with Triggers if anyone knows of any resources that can help me with these that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Are you talking about bets on the same runner being stopped after a bet is placed? The program is set to ignore the bet triggers if the bet reference column contains data, otherwise the program would just continually send bets and drain your account without something to stop it.

There's a command "CLEAR" that you can put in the trigger cell to clear the bet reference cell if you want to place further bets. There's plenty of other trigger commands that allow you to UPDATE , CANCEL bets etc so you can be fully automated, it'd be worth reading and making sure you understand how the triggers all work as it's very simple to get into a loop that will empty your account if you're not sure.

Hi Captain Sensible,

Thanks for the reply!

No, not at all. My problem is that when my first stake on Horse A is matched, I am having trouble getting the second or third bet matched.

The trigger fires up in excel and then a few seconds later says cancelled in the bet ref column. This has tended to happen within races when there is a close finish, sometimes all of my triggers work perfectly and all bets get matched, and then on other occasions only my first bet will get match, even though I betreference comes in the bet reference column and changes to cancelled.

What is even more surprising, when I view how much money has been matched on betfair at my odds its sometimes hundreds and I am only trying to get £2 matched whilst I'm starting out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Again,

Sam

Any unmatched bets placed in running will be cancelled once the market suspends at the finish, That'll change the bet reference to show as CANCELLED, that's normal it just means the bet didn't get matched. I'd guess your bets have just been CANCELLED because they weren't matched in running.

In fast moving markets , like in play horse racing, just because the odds are on show it doesn't necessarily mean you'll match them because of inplay delays. If you're placing bets under £2 that bet will take at least 3 seconds to reach the market, that's a long time to expect the odds to remain in place for you to match them. I'd imagine those hundreds would have been matched before your bet hit the market and the odds have moved away from what you were trying to match once your bet hit the market.

You know to increase my chances of getting matched in running,

Can I place bets in odds ranges.

For example, I will take any price between 1.9 and 2.

If so, do I need to but something different in Odds Column R.

Thanks again.

You can only place bets at single odds not in a range. If you wanted to cover backing between 1.9 and 2 you'd have to put your odds as 1.9, Betfair do what's called best execution so if the odds are higher than 1.9 when your bet hits the market you'd be matched at the higher odds not 1.9

I'd be surprised if any simple automated strategy backing horses at low odds would win long term on Betfair if I'm being honest,

Am I am reading this correctly? Sam does not want to be matched at odds greater than 2.0 because that would indicate the horse was less likely to win for instance if another horse was coming with a strong challenge and now looked a likely winner. I remember looking at this a long time ago and never found a solution, if anybody does or has I would be very interested. For what it is worth, I agree with Captain Sensible, any simple automated strategy backing horses at low odds are unlikely to win long term on Betfair - best regards Paul

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
