Using gruss s/w and scraper

Postby NigelRG » Tue Sep 27, 2016 3:16 pm

I'm very much a novice with both,

I have picked up the basics of scraper and know the parameters I need to enter using the Sporting Life and Excel 2010.

My problem is how get Gruss set up to automate the process as much as possible.

Any assistance greatly appreciated,

Nige

What do you mean by scraper? Is it some code or software? Might be easier for people to advise you if you say what you're trying to do. Plenty of us connect gruss to excel then use the refreshes to fire off any scraping of websites either oce or on each refresh.

Thanks for your reply, you've given me a push in the right direction.
Sorry we should never assume, I'd seen scraper mentioned on here.

It is for scraping info from the Sporting Life looking for value bets, the tool has been produced for people to use on the Forum I use.

These are the parameters that I'm looking to set up:- (I was hoping to snip and paste)

No favourites.

Include IRE races Y
Min No of selections …… 2
Max No of selections …… 3
Min odds for 2 sel. ………. 3.5
Min odds for 3 sel. ……….. 4.5
Time to place bets (S) …… 5
Place market threshold …. 11
Place bets in market
Straight Staking
Sel 1, Sel 2, Sel 3 …………… 0.1
Stop on profit of ………….. 5

When you say "the tool has been produced for people to use on the Forum I use" what do you mean, has it already been coded and you just need to link to excel and BA ?

I'm not sure what starting point you're at or even if you already have scraping code for excel? Are you gathering info from the sporting life cards or the live shows? Have you linked your scraped data to excel already?

I'm using the Scraper for live shows using the Excel reset button, in a limited capacity, because I haven't totally got my head round the process.

My main problem is linking scraper to Gruss s/w.

As a senior geriatric I need to limit human error, which becomes worse when rushing to put bets on.

Linking an excel sheet to gruss is very easy just follow the steps in the manual here

Once the sheet in linked to gruss the excel sheet updates in line with the gruss refresh rate. From that you can use VBA to fire off your scraping code at 5 seconds before the off and have it place bets for you.

Visual basic, it'll be the code your scraper is written in,

I'm guessing you have a button to start the scraping code now? basically VBA just presses that button for you

Thanks again for all your help.

Scraper starts by clicking on a file which kicks the races in Excel.

Having looked at the guide I'm not sure where I specify 2 or 3 selections prices, I appreciate Q, R & S cols.

You'd have to use excel IF formulas or VBA for more complicated selection criteria. It might be worth you asking on the forum you use if someone else is aready using their scraper with Gruss.

Probably the easiest way forward, especially if you don't know excel too well as you've quite a lot of criteria to take into account so the coding could get complicated. If you don't fancy coding it yourself there a developers section on the forum where a coder like Osknows would code it for you, no idea how much they cost but you've got the sportinglife part already coded so that'd cut down any work needed.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
