HELP!

Postby wizardofmann » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:08 pm

URGENT!

Had a problem when the screen would not refresh at my set rate. The refresh rate started to go haywire when I was in-play so I shut the Gruss software. After three attempts I shut the computer down and re-loaded Gruss: still wouldn't load markets! I went to Betfair exchange and logged on, all appeared to be working. I then logged back on Gruss and after about three attempts the market finally loaded. Any idea's before I started betting again?

MOST URGENT!

Postby wizardofmann » Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:16 pm

This is the third day running that i am having problems logging onto BA! The same problems as my first post. Yesterday, I went on Betfair Exchange and saw the announcement that they were experiencing problems but luckily soon after all worked but still sketchy. So far I have not been able to log on at all. Need some urgent answers please!

Without being an expert since no one reports problems with BA i think that there is something wrong with your internet provider. You should check your latency and ping times (google it) and better talk with your isp

Thanks mak, will check it out now as I don't dare doing any transactions until I get to the bottom of the problem.

If your' refresh is all over the place it's most likely an ISP problem like mak says otherwise everyone would be posting. Remember Gruss is just simply requesting prices from Betfair and if the version on your pc was working OK before there's no reason why it would now have gone bad.

Check some of the speedtest sites see if you're getting the speeds you;re supposed to and check the ping speeds as they're probably just, if not more important when it comes to speeds with betfair. Also reboot your router and you may get assigned a new IP address which may help.

Thanks Captain Sensible. Ok I managed to do 5 ping tests and I got the following results.

Packets lost - Average latency - Jitter

None 4.578ms 0ms
" 4.601ms 0ms
" 6.815ms 16ms
" 4.763ms 1ms
" 4.560ms 0ms

I have read up to try and understand these results but the figures still mean very little to me. Having said that it is obvious the smaller the figures the better. So may I presume I need to look elsewhere? I have run a few of my maintenance programs and nothing jumps out at me as being a problem with hardware or software. I would be most appreciative for any help in quantifying the above results.

I thank you in advance.

Where were you getting the pings from don't normally see them quoted as decimals. With pings around 5ms you shouldn't be having problems , where are you based? Is you firewall permissioned for BA

Are you betting from Cyprus then? I thought they'd banned the exchanges and online gambling. Might be worth checking if it's legal out there or if just certain things like the in play are being blocked

My place is in South Cyprus (Greek occupied) I think you are thinking of North Cyprus (Turkish occupied territory) which is not recognised by the world, apart from Turkey of course.

Getting back to the problems I am experiencing. On the 9 January the 'Actual refresh rate' froze and I lost a race. I quickly opened the Betfair Exchange and they announced 'we are experiencing problems.'

Last night, two strange things happened. Just before the off, at the 20.15 Dundalk race showed 'SUSPENDED' and never went back in play. I expected to see a Non-runner but it never happened and the result came up on my Sportinglife screen. As it happens, for me it was not a problem as I only lay in-play but it must have affected those trading before the off. I checked on the Betfair Exchange but there was no mention of it. Then I laid 3 runners in the 20.45 at Dundalk and although the screen showed 'SUSPENDED' at the end of the race, it didn't 'CLOSE' and my account was not credited until just after the last race.

Not seen any complaints here on the forum (Unless they appear while I am composing this post) Surely it cannot just be me experiencing these 'strange happenings?'

There were a few posts about the problems at Dundalk last night, wasn't only you. I had a few bets voided in running which for once went in my favour.

From what you've said I'd put the spikes down to your internet connection as everything else like 9 Jan -> Betfair confirmed they were having problems and last night they were having problems with the suspend

regarding what you are mentioning in your above post all these were betfair problems (not your or BA)

If you look better there is a thread mentioning in BF forum. It is just that these are minor problem these days and everybody get used of them :D

Captain
you are right. BF was suspended in Cyprus (for 6-8 months i think) but now I have read that is (permanently) legal again.. probably you will find something more if you google it

By the way, doing a traceroute will also fail as it will inform you or your ISP where the fault is from.

ping:
Code: Select all
ping x.x.x.x(IP)

traceoroute:
Code: Select all
tracert x.x.x.x(IP)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
