How can I avoid loop with UPDATE trigger

Postby 2020vision » Mon Oct 31, 2011 5:31 pm

Hi All :)

Would anyone out there please be kind enough to give me an example or idea of
how to avoid getting into the UPDATE loop as described in this example spreadsheet:

Thanks in advance - Michael

Only had a quick peep at the sheet but surely the criteria of G5>S5 will have you jumping forward even when someone joins the queue with you. Gary's only put it up as an example rather than working model so I'd make sure it's doing what you want before using it.
But either way if the only problem is because of sub £2 bets not showing up and you're happy to sit alongside them then why not just amend the criteria from G5>S5 to something like G5>(S5+2) or something similar

Thanks for your suggestion but it still goes into rapid looping because
of the sub £2 bets? As they are jumped (I suspect) above me my bet
drops back to the front but then as soon as that happens the sub £2
bets jump back with me and it all starts over?

I am actually making progress, pretty slowly by adding conditions to
try and control it - but I'm not the best with Excel!

I'll keep trying but it appears that others do not get into such a bad
cycle or loop that I'm encountering. This I am pretty sure is down to
them being able to read sub £2 bets somehow? Wish I could because
that would definitely help and prevent me from landing right on top of them!

The people placing the sub £2 bets will probably be using their own coded apps and the API gives out that data in various requests for all price points just like the way you can see all price data in the ladder. The API request used for the grid only gets the data for top three prices where stake is at the £2 min and above.

I think the full price data is available via the com functions so you could always go down that route via vba. I'm not sure it'll be a s profitable as you think and it's strength lies in placing hidden bets which Betfair don't take kindly to unless you're adding volume in other areas or paying a lot of comms

Thanks again for another reply with some useful info :)

VBA is something I know very little about so that is a no-no for now?
Also the COM functions are something I have never even looked at
so I guess that is out of the question too for now.

Unless there is a somewhat simpler answer then I reckon I shall just
have to do my best using various conditions in Excel to keep it under
control - e.g. not updating for a set time delay

I shall keep on trying - Michael

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
