Unable to connect to COM interface

Postby 4everlost » Thu Jul 12, 2012 10:45 am

G'day all
I've had no success in connecting to the COM interface since starting my trial. I've tried various fixes with no luck on either my Win 7 64 bit and XP 32 bit boxes. Asking for help is usually my last option when it comes to computers as I like to learn by trial and error, I'm sure I could work this out in a couple of months, but I'd rather use that time on more fruitful (hopefully) tasks. As this problem exists on both boxes, I'm assuming the problem lies on my end. W7 is connected via a router, whereas Xp isn’t, so I don't think it's a router issue.
Here's a part of my W7 BA_Diagnostic.txt I think might help

I really hope someone can help.

That error message indicates you have another issue. You cannot connect to the workbook because Excel's COM interface is not working. Which version of Office are you using? Is it 2010 Click to run?

G'day Gary
I'm using Office 2010 home & student (not click to run or starter pack) installed from CD, on the box it says "family pack". Just tried using the install disc to repair with no luck.
I have .NET Framework V4 installed on both boxes

I checked my (Zonelabs) firewall settings, and found that excel was automatically set to block (X) inbound internet access. So I set this to ask (?), and voila, I've now got the COM interface working. :D
Now I'm ready to play

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
