Opendns problem

Postby TheGoldenVision » Sat Jun 05, 2010 10:07 pm

Today I suddenly can't access the Betfair site from my laptop. I get a message saying that the site has been blocked by something called OpenDns.

I have never installed such a prog on my laptop and have no idea how it suddenly popped up or how to get around the problem. I have tried to do a restore settings but that didn't help.

At the moment, at home, I have a main desk top computer in the office which is hard wired to a router. I use the router to access the internet via wifi for my laptop. The desktop can still access the Betfair main site.

I can still use the Betting Assistant on my laptop with no problem but if I need to access the BF site I cannot do it.

Any ideas how I can remove this obstruction??

The desktop is on the XP system and my laptop is using vista.

Thanks for your help

It's not actually software that is installed, it's a configuration setting. It sounds like your DNS server settings have changed.

See http://www.plus.net/support/software/dn ... ista.shtml

I suspect you haven't got "Obtain DNS server address automatically" ticked and instead it is configured to use the open dns server which is either 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220. Select the automatic option.

Many thanks Gary... you were spot on. The settings had changed but I haven't a clue how that had happened.

Hohum.... another one of those mysteries of t'interweb.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
