Data and Transaction charges question.

Postby Spike » Thu May 27, 2010 4:05 pm

Let's say I generate £50 in commission+implied comission, does that mean I can use £50 worth of data charges AND £50 worth of transaction charges without paying any more, or are both charges added together before commission is deducted?

Does anybody know for certain?

Thanks

I am pretty sure data and transaction charges are both added together first, but for a definitive answer you should contact Betfair.

They are charged separately.

For example if you generated £50 in commission+implied comission you would be allowed £50 / 2 = £25 woth of transaction charges. If you are an API user this is charged at £0.01 per transaction over 1000 per hour.

In this example you would be allowed 2500 additional transaction for the day.

This is totally independent of the data charges. So yes, you can use the £50 towards both charges.

Thanks Gary and Drunkennight.

Drunkenninght- you seem quite certain, is that because you checked with Betfair?

It is because I regularly pay these charges and request spreadsheets to try and understand them. While going through the spreadsheets I found an interesting anomaly. Betfair calculate implied commission in different ways. For the Premium charge and transaction charge they use the formula:-
Implied Commission = market losses x 3%

For the data usage charge they use:-
Implied Commission = market losses x your commission rate

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
