automatic quickpick list navigation

Postby jonn » Sun Feb 07, 2010 9:27 pm

Hi,

I have a source producing horse racing win market selections that i would like to place automatically in Betting Assistant.

I can get the selections into Excel ready to fire, but the problem is they vary between UK, Ireland and U.A.E race courses, so the quickpict lists would need to update accordingly to find the bet.

If possible i would like this to be happening on a 24/7 basis.

Hope someone can help.

Jon

If I've understood you, it isn't necessary to have one sheet switching between markets (though I don't doubt that could be achieved). If you know in advance which runners you are interested in and therefore which markets you want to monitor, you could just have several copies of your worksheet within your workbook (one for each market).

Each sheet will constantly log data from the market you've assigned to it and they'll act independently of one another, just observing the data until the time comes for them to implement the formulae you have created.

Logging to several sheets does increase the demand on your computer's resources but lots of users do it with many sheets successfully.

Naturally, what I've described would require you to set things up each day by selecting and assigning the markets to individual sheets.

thanks for your reply silver.

Are you saying that i could set up one to UK race list, another to Ireland race list, another to UAE list and direct the delections accordingly?

I could find a way to direct the data into the relevant one for sure.

I contacted Gary and he said it would be possible to do it under tabs in Betting Assistant and code it to scroll between markets automatically but i don't have the abilities to code it unfortunately

Had another think about this and, presuming the race scheduled times do not overlap and you do not need to monitor the markets for long periods before placing bets, you should be able to do it like this with a single Excel sheet:

-In BA, clear the quick pick list

-Find each race market in the market tree and 'drag' it to the quick pick list box.

-Adjust the market settings to auto select markets x mins before start.

-Log the tab to your Excel sheet.

Excel will monitor the first race, place a bet if conditions are met, then move on to the next race x mins before race start as you have specified.

If all you are doing is backing or laying named horses, that should be OK.

As I said, logging to multiple sheets is only really necessary if you need to monitor several markets at the same time. It can be very useful and is worth getting familiar with, but probably not required here.

If any forum users think I've missed out something useful or important, hopefully they'll join in.

Hi again Silver,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I tried your theory and as i see it i could drag "horse racing todays card" into the quick pick list. This contains all the days races and would then get around my problem of races in different countries.

I have possibly overlooked one issue and i hope you can answer this:

My assumption was that as long as the quick pick list contained the horse name somewhere in the list the bet would be placed immediately (which is my requirement) but it seems the race market would have to open be place the bet.
The problem with this is that when my selections come in i need to gain as close as possible to the odds available at that time. Currently there is only one bet a day.

A solution to this, if possible, is to cycle through the 'horse racing todays card' list and then it would automatically match?

Hope this makes sense!

Hi Jon

Within the market tree, if you click the + to the left of 'Horse Racing-Todays Card', the tree will expand to show all the races and you can drag, individually, just the races you are interested in to the quick pick list.

For a bet to be placed by your Excel spreadsheet:
1. Excel needs to be actively monitoring the event, it is not enough that the event is in the quick pick list.
2. The trigger criteria that you specify must be met. In your case, you will need to incorporate within your spreadsheet the names of the horses you want to bet on and your trigger formula will need to check that data to see which of the runners in the event it is monitoring is on that list.

The set up I outlined in my last post would not work for you if you wanted the bets to all be placed at the same time, because the markets would be monitored by Excel consecutively and it can only bet on what it is monitoring. It is possible to monitor many markets at once, but I have a query:

If your plan is to have the bets placed as soon as the runner names are released to you, I am not sure you need to automate this process at all. When you receive the names, it will be as quick for you to place the bets manually at that time as to enter the names in your spreadsheet and have the sheet trigger your bet.

When you say you have a source that provides you with win selections, I presume that you are talking about a tipster. Is that correct? How does your source make the selections available to you? Are they posted on a website, or emailed to you? If from a website, it is possible that Excel could scrape the data from the site and then automation might be worthwhile.

My overall point is that unless you can get your selections in to Excel without having to manually type them in when they're released, there is no advantage to automating this (given that you want bets placed immediately).

Hi Again Silver,

Once again thanks for your replies.

Yes, the selections are for a tipster source and i agree it would be easier placing myself manually but there are a few factors that unfortunatley stop me from doing so. (1) i am at work during times when these come in (2) do not get enough time to get the bets on (3) forgetting to place them!

I can get my selections into the excel sheet fine and they place bets for me too, but currently only when the race market is selected and in the quick pick list. As you say, this is how it work and as it should be.

My ultimate goal is to have the bets automatically placing as near as possible to recieving them and to ideally leave it working on a 24/7 basis.

I think it all may be possible in Betting Assistant but i do not have skills and knowledge to set up this part.

Many thanks for helping,

Jon

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
