Greetings & Bookmaking

Postby J.S » Sat Oct 30, 2010 6:15 pm

Hi everyone!

Am new to these forums although I have been trading for a while with Bet Angel Pro and then The Toy. I've had some good recommendations from the latter and am researching if I could implement my Excel ideas using this software.

I'm looking to automate some of my manual strategies and found the spreadsheets offered here a good starting point. Regrettably the download links are old and not functional anymore :(

My question is does anyone on this forum use these spreadsheets anymore? or something similar that I could test out? They were offered for free back then so I'm hoping someone might still have them saved somewhere.

I will be mainly testing some systematic bookmaking strategies with a few variables on the specific triggers, so adjustable trigger settings would be ideal. I run a dual boot system with Win 7 & XP with current and old office versions, so any old spreadsheets that work would be fine, in addition to the ones compatible for the latest office.

If anyone can assist I would be grateful, or even point me in the right direction. A damn shame the thread I linked has broken download links as it would of been a good start.

Anyhow thanks in advance for any responses, this forum looks very good indeed and I suspect I will be posting quite a bit more once I start testing with an adequate spreadsheet :)

JS,

I haven't used these but they look OK when opened. Let me know how you get on.

Thought I would update this thread in case anyone else was looking to use this. Regrettably this bot does not work anymore and Mark has kindly confirmed this for me when I emailed in. It was designed to work with a subscription to the bot program, however the creator needs to activate all subscriptions and has not responded to my email sent over a week ago. His site is also not running anymore, so it looks like this bot is not operational for the time being.

Big thanks to lindemann & Mark for their assistance. If anyone knows of a similar Bookmaking feature currently available I would appreciate a heads up. As it stands I'm still searching for something to test with.

Hi JS,

Yes i always thought it was a shame that gruss-bot never got off the ground.

As to your bookmaking strategies can you not implement them yourself by creating triggers ?

There are a few people on this forum who are well versed in programing and I have a little skill in writing triggers. Why not post in the excel developer section.

Read your blog by the way which was very interesting.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the response. After some research I think I am going to take the plunge and learn how to program the damn thing myself. It's not the most sophisticated bot, in fact one strategy I have in mind should be quite easy once I get the knowledge on how to get it coded. Longterm it seems to be the best option too, as I'm bound to want to implement new strategies in the future and being able to do it myself would be the best way forward.

Sods law really, just when you invest considerable time and effort to learn how to trade, I then need to invest more time and effort to learn how to automate it all!

Hi J.S I have also moved to gruss from geeks toy (which I think is perfect) after loosing my bank a few times due to not being able to close the market with a loss (not because of the program but because of me hopeing it will turn around in my favor). But since using gruss this has never hapened to me (the excel bot never hopes for anything, it just places the bets as you have planed). It took me a few days to make my first bot that would open and close positions (I was a complete excel noob) and just before the 30 days trial expired I had a nice working bot.
But as time went on I realized that I could not make a perfect bot without using VBA. I took the chalange and read a few books and now I have very complex bot that records the past odds and places bets based on the odds moovement in the past (I have not finished this bot yet but I am on a good way).

But what I was trying to say by this is that no matter how difficult the excel bot programming might seem it is worth the time and it would improve your betting drastically. And even if you do not build a perfect bot at least you learn some excel which is always very useful.

So good luck and don't give up if you can't come up with some working solutions. The people on this forum are great and very helpful if you come to a problem that you cannot solve yourself.

Thanks andrej you have summed up exactly what I was thinking about saying to J.S. 8)

J.S I have excel sheets that run day in and day out for weeks at a time just running my triggers and they perform flawlessly thanks to Gary's program skills - my excel sheets are pretty dam close to a bot in my opinion, and once you master VBA (of which I know next to nothing) you can do whatever you want.

Try encapsulating your ideas / strategies with triggers (I and others here can help if you get stuck) and if they work then you know you have something worth building upon.

On a different tack I see laffo16 is still around as he commented on a topic in September. I think he is certainly a person who could construct your bot.

Thanks for the support guys, it does seem like learning to program it all is plausible and not as daunting as it appeared at first.

Very much looking forward to getting things rolling.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
