Betting Exchanges

Postby spread1 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 1:08 am

hi there i am pretty new to all this one click software/triggers/ect, I have used betfair for years just saturday betting, mostly backing with the odd lay and a little scalping here and there, it was enjoyment but little profit if any, I have now decided to look further into it, I suppose to go further into things I need to learn the Software, so i have decided to go to a Betting Exchange and learn as much as I can,

they promote the Exchanges as having a massive advantage over 95% of punters would you agree? I have really no idea how much learning is involved to use this Gruss software, or how many different ways it could be used, I am just a normal guy not bright and not thick , is this the kinda software i could be shown the basics and then go on to lean myself, or is there hours of learning to be done before i could use it with any confidence, cheers

You might find it surprising for me to say that as the developer of the software I am not the best person to advise you on this. I don't personally make any money through betting/trading. It's not our ethos to try and sell you the software on the basis that it will make you money and prefer to remain impartial.

I can tell you that you can learn the basics in a day or two, but it will take considerably longer if you decide to go down the automation route and learn Excel triggered betting. You will need to learn how to write formulas and possibly some VBA code. It's beyond the scope of our service as the software provider to teach you this, but you will get plenty of advice on here when you get stuck.

I would also like to point out that learning the software in itself will not make your more profitable. You need to discover what tactics work best for you and then see if the software can help you do it more efficiently.

I presume you are talking about going to a trading room. I recommend that you do as they are in a better position to give you the advise you are looking for.

I am sure some members on this forum can give you more advice, please help me out.

Hi spread1,

Firstly I should just say I have never been to a betting exchange but anyone who has a strategy that relies on faster pic’s would obviously benefit by using the exchange/trading room with superior betting software on a decent pc, and as Gary says, they are very friendly helpful places.

Secondly every trading room I have heard or seen pictures of use Gruss software (Betting Assistant) which I think speaks volumes for the software as it is the choice of most professionals.

On my own personal experience using the software, well I think its second to none. Its stability, function, options, customisability are all amazing, and I have tried all the leading ones out there.
The useability, well if you’re anything like me anything new can be a little daunting at first. My advice would be to firstly customise your betting interface. If you don’t like the colour of something, change it. If you don’t like the position of a column, move it. If you don’t want the history graph, untick it. If you don’t want the “inc/dec lay odds”, untick it. Make YOUR interface user friendly for YOU. Then When you are comfortable with the basic software start adding/using functions you are interested in.

I’m not sure you’ll learn every function/option in a day or two, I know I couldn’t, but then why do we need to, just start with the basic’s and things you require then progress at your own pace.

If you need to use Excel for automated betting and know nothing about Excel, well unless you’re from Pluto that will take more than a few days, but don’t worry, if you’re prepared to learn the basics then there is Gary, Mark and many other Plutonian’s who use the forum that will help guide you.

Sorry Trading Rooms, that first comment by me “anyone who has a strategy that RELIES on faster pic’s” makes it sound like all trading room punters are 1.01 backers or 1000 layers, which of course they’re not .

What I meant was “anyone who has a strategy that would benefit with faster pic’s” which is just about every in running strategy I can think of. Even the best race readers out there would benefit by getting better value with the faster feeds, and as we know value is everything. I would also imagine general punting in an environment with like minded people with no distractions and maybe a few helpful do’s and don’ts wouldn’t hurt anyone’s Betfair balance.

And just a couple more points about using Betting Assistant (betting software). I have a very high spec pc with a 20 meg internet connection, but quite often and especially on weekends the Betfair website can be sluggish at best, whereas my Betting Assistant is very fast and only uses a very small fraction of my pc and internet resource. So I tend to now think that I’m not advantaged by using Betting Assistant, but disadvantaged if I don’t.

The point I made about customizing the user interface (betting grid) is that the Betting Assistant is probably easier to use than the betting grid on the website, it’s certainly more ergonomically friendly, but with all the whistles and bells it can at first look complicated.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
