Keep Bet

Postby negapo » Tue Dec 11, 2012 11:06 am

Sorry, not really BA related but the "Betfair General Betting Thread Archive" is locked.

I'm trying to check if its possible to place a bet in-play in a soccer match and then keep that bet after the market is suspended (a goal is scored or a red card is showed). I thought this was not possible, i see no option to keep the bet once the market goes in-play. I haven't tried to see if a pre-event keep bet will be maintained even if a goal is scored.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks

Why not just try it out live, stick a £2 keep pre off at 1.01 and recheck it after a goal. There's always plenty of live action going on won't be long before you see if it'll keep after a goal then cancel it.

As far as I was aware keep bets can only be placed pre KO but will remain after a goal, you can't place keep bets once a market is in running because Betfairs server see the the markets already running so no need for a keep.

Thanks Captain Sensible

I couldn't try it at work because it would mess my bot, have to try it at home.
That means that there may be some loose money to grab when a goal is scored (good news).

Doubt that loose cash will be easy to grab especially with Betfair's cross matcher getting a head start on everyone. Just tried the keep on match odds and correct score both were kept after a goal had been scored.

BetFair is really not understanding its roll as an exchange. The cross matching, the uneven charges, the fixed odds offering competing with others users ... They are heading the wrong way.

The Cross Matching and the priority on the queue is a really interesting question that shows how can BetFair rip you off.
Imagine this Market Status on a soccer match (just the odds):

Selection 1: 1.71 - 100
Selection 2: 1.01 - 4.00
Selection 3: 1.01 - 3.00

If someone wanted to back Selection 1 they have 1.71 available. If they Lay Selection 2 and Selection 3 they could achieve a back at odds 1.714. If BetFair applies the Cross Matching at this particular market they would add some extra money available at 1.71 and they would be in front of the queue offering 1.71 and keeping the 0.004 for themselves.
Is this right Captain Sensible, they would move in front of the 1.71?

Thanks for testing the keep bet. In that specific case you could send a large dutch when a goal is scored and try to grab some of the money. You could be competitive and try to estimate the new balance on the market. The funny part is that when BetFair suspends the market after a goal that loose money is showed before it reopens, you can see the amounts on the market. The hard part is to be the first one to make the bet.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
