Oddschecker through VirginMedia...

Postby 2020vision » Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:07 pm

Hello All :)

Since about 4pm this afternoon I have been completely unable to acces the Oddschecker.com website and wondered if anybody else on VirginMedia
has the same problem? When I try the error message I get is:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.oddschecker.com/

The following error was encountered:

•Access Denied.
Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is incorrect.

This is drastically hampering my efforts - any ideas anyone???

Thanks - Michael

P.S. Have been in touch with VM support and they said they could not access
Oddschecker themselves? But suggested I ask Oddschecker direct?
They assured me I was not blocked by them and there is nothing wrong their end.

Perhaps I should add that if I use a mobile dongle or through an anonymizer type website it all works fine. Also I have treble checked it's nothing to do with my router, firewall or anti-virus software by trying with two different computers with two different operating systems.

Any ideas - Michael

Which web browser are you using and does the same problem occur with another browser? I am on Virgin Media and don't have this issue.

Here is as full a description so far...

From about 4pm yesterday I was denied access using Firefox as above. It was working fine and then next race - nothing? I thought the site was down but after a while checked with "hidemyass.com" and was allowed to view Oddschecker. So I tested with Opera and Int. Explorer - same again, denied access. Rebooted EVERYTHING - still denied. Surely this rules out anything in or on my PC?

Treble checked denial using 3 computers and 2 operating systems - still denied? Got in touch with Virgin support, they said nothing at their end for sure, tried traceroute which timed out step 12 - easynet.co.uk was step 11. So emailed Oddschecker support, they said nothing their end for sure either? This morning I rang easynet support, they assured me absolutely nothing to do with them either? Two friends also confirmed timeout with easynet.co.uk BUT they could still both access Oddschecker.

Got back in touch with Virgin support, who were patient and they even tried to force my router to have different ip address but their system was unable, if this changes it is only periodically and dynamically as and when their system says? Also tried manually entering different dns settings in Networking, local connection - no success!

So I finally decided to go down the proxy server route in my LAN settings using the official Virgin proxy settings. This worked but at a cost of losing about half of my internet speed? I would obviously like to have everything running as smooth as possible and am not really happy with my situation as it is but right now I do not see what else I can try or do other than wait and hope that Virgin change my ip address soon? I have had the present one apparently since June?

Hope this was not too long and drawn out but I can think of nothing else to do or try, other than changing ISP which is pretty awkward to say the least considering I have a pretty good deal which includes TV and phone.

All the best - Michael

P.S. Any questions - fire away, thanks.

Have you tried to clean your cookies etc?
Just a guess but it seems the problem is in your end

Thanks for the idea mak but have tried that too - as well as 3 computers and two OS's? Am certain that it's not my end unless the router or modem are somehow to blame? Not according to Virgin they're not?

Looks like I am pretty well at a loss, eh?

All the best - Michael

Thanks everyone but it's all over now

Oddschecker have just now informed me that I have been blocked
for excessive access to their site, I did not realise I was using to much of their info? I only opened up most of the greyhound markets for latest odds.

Will post again if any developments,

Thanks, Michael

In case anyone is interested I have made an apology and explanation to
Oddschecker which they have accepted and told me that they will unblock me tomorrow. :)

Maybe this experience will be of some use or informative to some of you?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
