Anyone else with Sky broadband and find their connection going down several times a day? It's getting reidiculous now the amount of time I have to restart the modem.

Anyone recoomend another inetrnet supplier who has a very stable connection?

I am with Sky on the "unlimited package" (LLU) and have no problems whatsoever.

Go over to following:- http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/

Somebody over there should be able to help you or advise you to change "ISP".

Thanks both, maybe it's the modem or the area I'm in. I'll take a look on the forum.

I'm on sky unlimited - works a treat - but did have the speed 'turned down' from 10mb to 7mb - to stop it from dropping out frequently ( a local line issue ? )

You can get the line supplier ( whoever you pay line rental to ) to run an engineers check - but you may have to pester them somewhat !

Take a look in the line masterbox - mine used to be a right mess.... but ofcourse you cant touch anything in there !

Cool, it seems I may be panicking about their service a bit prematurely then but I was with Talk-Talk previously so I'm sure you cna understand why

It's good to know they are providing a good service. I will get them to check it out for me.

I've been with talk talk for years.
Occassionally they go through a sticky patch but on the whole they have been ok with me.
Most UK ISP's now use software to try and get you the best speed, it's the same software they use to throttle your bandwidth if you are an excessive user. This involves constantly tweaking your speed for a few days until it fails then just slowing it a little bit until it remains constant and connected.

If any ISP is dropping out alot (disconnecting), there are several things to note.

1) Is it raining / wet outside when it drops out? ( could suggest a wet joint somewhere )
2) Is there any hum or inteferance audibly noticable even faint when you use the phone, either all the time or just occassionally? ( suggest's an HR or Battery discharge on the line, may not be from your house or equipment)
3) Do you have a monitered alarm system? (Monitered alarms are often connected directly to the phone line without a broadband filter)
4) Get the modem plugged into the main incoming socket. ( If you can't then consider paying a network engineer to come and sort your internal phone wiring so that you can.

And if all else fails then moan like a Bastard to the ISP :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
