Newbie VB help

Postby Bakerman » Fri May 27, 2011 5:04 pm

Firstly, a big hello to everyone.
I am just starting to get to grips with BA and have a few, probably basic, questions.
I would like to automate my betting strategy (currently using IE software to place bets for me during the day) using VB and avoid using Excel at all. Is this possible? I guess that I use the COM interface? I used to be a half decent programmer (machine code, assembler, Pascal, Fortran, VB3/6) and feel that I would have greater control and flexibilty in this way. What version of VB do I need to install?
The program will need to place bets at SP for me on the favorite five seconds before the off if the odds are with set limits. If anyone has an example VB project that implements anything similar to this to help me get started I would be very grateful.
Cheers.

If you want to use the the COM interface to place bets at Betfair SP then I'm afraid it doesn't have that function yet so please don't waste any time on it. You need to use Excel triggered betting to place SP bets.

See the user guide here http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Betting ... p/help.htm for details on Excel triggered betting and COM interface. You should be able to follow the same principles in the Excel COM example to get it working in VB.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
