Setting up Tick Offset

Postby easternpromise » Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:50 pm

I am trying to understand how the tick offset works and if it can help with my betting routine.

I would like to lay the favourite horse at beginnig or the race but then back it at say 5 ticks higher if it starts losing.

Should I...

tick trading mode
tick keep in play
set tick offset to 5 ticks.

Is there anything else I should do?

Also do I have to place the initial lay bet with a spreadsheet or do I can I use BA.

Trading mode is not required.

If you are laying before the start of the race then you should tick keep in play so that the offset bet is carried in play.

Yes, set tick offset to 5 ticks.

You should change the above settings before placing the bet by clicking on the prices grid.

If you want to automate this then you will need a to use a spreadsheet and the above settings do not apply. You would use the trigger LAY-T5-IP instead. See the user guide for more information.

Thanks Gary,

I have got the excel trigger working ok (LAY-T10-IP).

But my lay bet is a £5 stake, and when the back price goes 10 ticks higher the stake is £5. Therefore I win/lose nothing.

How do I adapt the trigger so the back stake is more therefore giving a profit?

O, I think I might use a sliding stoploss instead....

Have I written this trigger correctly?

LAY-SL5-S-IP

If you are just wanting to use a sliding stop loss then yes your trigger is correct.

If you wanted to do tick offset with adjsuted stake to provide a level profit and also a sliding stop loss then you could use the following:-

LAY-TL5-SL5-S-IP

Mark

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
