Hi Guys all your comments are appreciated but nothing seems to work, just one thought, I have the COM server enabled and the IP address is 127.0.0.1 with port 8000. These have not changed but wondered whether there are any alternatives that anyone is using ?

Kindest regards

Hi Gary,

I seem to have hit the same problem again in that no excel workbook names appears in the log current prices section of the excel tab.

I have again tried all known solutions and have therefore sent you a copy of said excel sheet and would ask you to see if it connects to your version of BA. I have tried it with both the 65 version and the beta 66 version again with no success.

last time this happened I had changed nothing on my computer but the day after my last reply the workbook appeared on the tab again. I have tried to connect from 3 different computers at differing locations again with no succcess. The only common denominator at these locations were that they each had Virgin media cable as the broadband supplier. Is it possible that BA is being affected by security or firewalls or 32 bit or 64 bit versions of internet explorer. This is getting very frustrating. I have sent a copy of the workbook that was operational on the 13th October 2010.

Kindest regards

The spreadsheet does not appear to be the problem. It cannot possibly be your ISP also.

It's very strange that it happens on more than one computer which suggests that BA simply cannot connect to the spreadsheet and this is not the case. Every single BA user would have a problem if this was the case.

It could possibly be that you are doing something we are not aware of and have not catered for. Can you confirm that after immediately rebooting your PC this problem occurs? If it never occurs in this case then are you sure you don't have invisible instances of Excel open? Open the task manager and end all processes named Excel.exe then open your spreadsheet and try again.

If the above does not help then I could try using our remote assistance software to connect to your PC and have a look for myself. We can arrange a time tomorrow, I will not be available today.

Hi Gary,

I have tried all your suggestions and would appreciate help via remote assist tomorrow.

I will be available from 10.30am tomorrow and will in preparation have downloaded a new version of BA from your website and have the excel sheet I sent to you for testing open. Please confirm the time and your requirements for remote assist tomorrow.

Kindest regards

hi Gary,

Thanks for the remote assist this morning which appears to have highlighted the problem with "Click and Run" version of excel 2010.

In order to get the system up and running again I have re installed office 2007 (trial version only) which has temporarily resolved the problem.

I have emailed microsoft regarding the com server problem with "Click and Run" version of excel and will report back when reply received.

I will use the remote assist to do a similar exercise on my brother's machine his evening and will report if that machine is also up and running, later.

Kindest regards

The 2010 "click to run" version of excel does not work with BA as the Com Server will not connect the two. In order to enable the com server to connect you need to follow the following Microsoft instructions to change the 2010 version from "Click to Run" to the MSI based version:

Switch from Office Click-to-Run to MSI-based Office

The license is the same. You do not need a new Product Key.
If you have any questions, contact Microsoft Support.

1.Save all work, and then close all programs.
2.In Control Panel, open Programs and Features to see a list of installed programs.
3.Click Microsoft Office Click-To-Run 2010, and then click Uninstall.
4.To remove Microsoft Office Click-to-Run, click Yes.
5.Go to the Microsoft Office alternative fulfillment page.
6.Click My account.
7.Click Download, and then click Advanced options.
8.Follow the instructions.
9.To install the MSI-based Microsoft Office edition, run SingleImage.exe.
10.When prompted, type your Product Key to continue.

This info is important as PC World and others are pre loading the Click to Run version of Office 2010 on all new machines and will become more common place as members upgrade either their computer or version of excel

Kindest regards

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
